Understanding the Black Experience

Great post

Kevin, I have few friends. Most that I DO have are white, just two or three are black (I despise the phrase African-American). I have so few friends because I demand that my friends be honest and intelligent. Most people are lazy and just plain stupid. One black friend is hard working, still married to his wife (29 years or more), makes his kids get an education and teaches them manners. He is the standard for AMERICANs to live up to. I don't see color, I see a good man with a good family doing what he needs to do.
Igusee what I'm saying is, I take Rev, MLK's words to heart. I judge a man by his character, not his skin color.
Keep up the good work.

Scrap Iron

I will indeed keep up the good work! Check out my website, if you get a moment. http://www.theblacksphere.net

Kevin

It sounds to me like you had love in whatever house or home you lived in. That is a really big advantage when you get older.

I was raised in Kansas and then So Cal by parents who were old school Texans and Oakies. I knew nothing but love from them, and never heard them say a bad thing to anyone. It was only after I came to Cal at age nine that I learned that some people didn't like black folk because they were black. It made me sorry that we came here.

You are a good man, and I wish you all that you deserve in life.

God bless you, and God bless America.

Glenn Flowers

Damn good read!

I sent the link to your post to the editors of TH. I hope they respond by featuring the article or perhaps giving you some space in the magazine. I’ll also pass it to my trusted friends.

I have not read or heard anything as clear, honest, and poignant on the race issue than this.

glnflwrs

You nailed it. A house full of love, and I was taught to respect human kind. Thanks for the message.

INTHEKNOW

Thanks for passing this on. I have tried to write for TH, but didn't know how to go about it. I hope they consider it. Thanks for your kind words on my article.

Congrats Kevin!

Your are the featured blogger at TH:

The Black Sphere is an unapologetic Conservative safe haven. His grandparents instilled in him a "no excuses mentality" and work ethic, which led to his definition of America. Read the blog at:

Thanks for telling me this, however I can't locate how to see that!

Let me know how to find it, if you don't mind?

Kevin,

The announcement was on the “Your Blogs” page, located in the top right hand corner. I don’t see it today. LOL! I suppose a little recognition is better than none.

Nevertheless, you have one loyal fan. Keep up the good work!

Tim

Kevin-Great Story!

As a black man with experiences similar to yours, I couldn't have said it better myself!

God has truly blessed you with your insight; and you bless America by sharing it with all of us.

Keep on keeping on, my brother.

I only know one way to roll! Thanks for the comment!

Excellent writing and interesting life

Kevin:

I also was raised with love. I was fortunate to have a wonderful father who thought his girls were smart and pretty.

Unlike Scrap Iron I am blessed with many friends, most of them nurses.
Similar to glnflwrs I grew up in Oklahoma before coming to CA for high school.

A friend showed this blog to us. I had some questions based on your book site. She suggested I ask them here.

Don't you think your granmother thinks for herself? Did your grandfather?
I'm so very glad you are blessed to have your grandmother.

Do you blame liberals for your fathers behavior?
If race doesn't matter why is that the topic of all I read here and on your site?

This is from your book site. It is very sad to me.

"The BIG Black Lie: How I learned the truth about the Democrat Party, exposes how liberals choose the rights of criminals over the rights of law-abiding citizens, the rights of illegal immigrants and terrorists over the rights of American citizens, and the rights of pedophiles over the rights of our children."

Kathy

Race doesn't matter to me. The problem is Democrats have demagogued race, making it a focal issue AGAINST Republicans. I'm here to set the record straight, and reverse that trend for say 10 years. Let's see how Dems and Libs like having race thrown in their faces for a decade or so, until things have evened out.

Conservatives are the SOUL of America, and it's time we take this country back. When that happens, I will be happy to drop the subject of race!

Race and demagoguery

Hi there Kevin. A few years ago, Ken Mehlman admitted that in fact, Republicans had exploited racial divisions in order to gain White voters (aka the Southern strategy). Doesn't that put paid to your claims about Democrats? Of course it seemed obvious to me with use of code words, appeals to states rights and inflammatory imagery-are you familiar with Reagan's welfare queen lie and the Willie Horton ads?

My question is: as a Black man, how do you reconcile this type of race baiting with your support of Republicans while simultaneously showing disdain for Democrats?

P.S. I was also directed to your site by a friend.

Sharon

The question isn't about Republicans. You see, in 1865 a fundamental question was raised. Should blacks be slaves or freed? The Democrats wanted to hold on to their institution so much that they were willing to fight over it. When they lost, they started the KKK. Now Republicans were exactly "black friendly." HOWEVER, they did the RIGHT thing! So don't try to use smoke and mirrors to get conservatives' and Republicans' eyes off the ball. The ball is that Democrats passed all laws to prevent blacks from voting and to dehumanize them, while Republicans voted against them.

So why wouldn't Republicans attempt to gain voters. They were on the right side of the issue.

The Black experience

Before the '30's, black voters voted Pub because of Lincoln. But, the FDR coalition, stopped all of that. Still, after some 75 years, the black voters have not been dealt with by liberal Dems in a way for them to continue support. But, they do. The real problems in their communities have not been dealt with by any so called black leaders. Instead, they have put forward an entitlement mentality that has corrupted the community. So problems like a 70% unwed mother issue, guns, drugs, DUI's, joblessness, welfare queens, prison population, the rise of Black Muslims, are never dealt with by the majority Dems so they can keep black voters in their pocket. And Pubs cannot compete with that. Education by objective teachers might help but education is not always a major priority in the community. How to change this mentality is still a mystery . Drop by my newest today and rant.

Rackoons

Looked at your blog and it was a rant "fa sho!" :-)

Kevin

Excellent post. I grew up in a small town in Iowa with a population of about 600 people, mostly descended from Denmark and Germany. Not much cultural difference there. But I traveled much with my family and had the privilege of seeing the rich and the poor, and staying with them. My family is very close, my dad being a pastor and mom a music teacher, and was taught that you should find out about a person on their character and not the color of their skin.

Keep writing and I'll keep reading. Townhall is full of so many good blogs I'm glad I joined!

Eric

Thanks for the props. I hope you do follow my "stuff." You can also read me at http://www.theblacksphere.net

And Kevin...

...I just read this post, and I must compliment you on a beautiful piece of writing. How I appreciate you for understanding that race has nothing to do with Conservatives' dislike of and distaste for Obama. It is his Marxism, dishonesty, racism (I truly think he hates the white part of himself and thus whites in general), and in many cases his downright stupidity. I wonder if you know the story of one of my all-time heroes: Dr. Ben Carson of Johns Hopkins. His book, "Gifted Hands," should be required reading of all Americans of every color. I hope you will read it if you haven't. I shall by buying your book.

@Jan

I have a copy of Gifted Hands, and it is a great read. Thanks for getting my book. I think you will thoroughly enjoy it!

Kevin

When my Grandmother died, I read this in a eulogy for her.

"Some people are more talented than others. Some are more economically privileged than others. But, we all have the capacity to be great.

Greatness comes with recognizing that your potential is limited only by how you choose, how you use your freedom, how resolute you are; in short, by your attitude. And we are all free to choose our attitude." (Peter Kostenbaum)

You know, all it takes is love and respect, which you learned from your Grandparents.

One thing I will probably not ever understand is that meme that because you are an educated, successful person and have moved away from the victimhood that can trap us all- why do your "brothers' if you will, call you a traitor to the cause?

My friend describes himself as Gary Coleman on Steroids because that is how he looks. 6'5 and HUGE!! But he is educated and is an exec for a Grocery Chain. He says his friends call him a sell-out because of his success. Why?

Nee...

Blacks are programmed to degrade those who are successful. It's really that simple. Read my blog for more explanations. http://www.theblacksphere.net

Thanks for the comment!
