A Thought on Hitchens

Interesting analysis, and very cogent.
I really like Hitchens on some subjects, but I find it fascinating that he can be so adamant in his denial of all things religious. The case for Jesus' existence is much more compelling and likely...and the need for the excellence and precision of randomness to explain such complex notions as "a soul" or "feelings" in the evolutionary process, without God, defy logic.
Either way, your conclusion is accurate. Hitchens and his cohorts will go down with the ship.

I don't recall whether or not you have posted here before, so I will say welcome to the blog, just in case.
The one thing that strikes me is that there is simply no culture I can name which has absolutely no concept of some sort of religion. Those simple societies which mainly have faith in spirits and magic tend to have some sort of creator as well. Even if they did not, their faith in unseen spirits and magic itself is a mystical belief.
It would be unusual for mankind to have such a universally held belief if it was both entirely harmful and false. Of course, that does not mean religious belief is true. It could mean Hitchens is wrong and religious belief is more beneficial to the believers than he admits. But, one way or the other, it seems odd that mankind would universally possess a belief both completely harmful and false.
