SMART is still DUMB

My first trip to Italy in the 90's left me with two wishes for the US. One, they had fancy electronic devices that billed you for tolls through bridges and roads. Two, they had rail that was so enjoyable, you would use it. For a supposedly third-world country, I was a bit jealous of their 150+ mph trains and fancy use of 1960's technology to relieve traffic jams at toll booths. So much for Silicon Valley.

People might just decide to take the train up & down the peninsula rather than gas up the Suburban. Folks like me might love the idea of taking a train ride to Geyserville for a fantastic dinner at Santi without the DUI that comes with my enjoying a glass of Nebbiolo. Others might just choose to commute by driving a few miles to a train station instead of joining the traffic jam.

I voted for Smart, and it makes sense to me. I would rather allocate my tax dollar to enoyable "mass" transportation than another war. But hey, I'm just the kind of dummy that thinks we might pull together someday and stop killing each other.
