Biblical Worldview

Redeeming the Culture

Most of our problems would be diminished if we made more disciples. People choosing to follow Christ and living accordingly are less likely to commit crime, kill their babies, bring children into the world out of wedlock, envy and thus buy things they can't afford, and so forth.

Biblical Worldview

Ken,

Yes, we absolutely agree. That's why we've written, Get Serious "http://www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore/book.php?w=978-1-60696-301-2". Too many people are getting their values from "the View" rather than from the Bible.

Changing the World

"...How do we change the politics? We suggest by changing the worldview and the culture will follow and then the politics will follow."

It is easy to preach the sermon on the mount to a congregation, but will they make the necessary sacrifices to translate Our Lord's words into reality?

Don't get me wrong, I am a biblical optimist, no matter how dismal things look. But we need to understand that throughout scriptural and church history God's judgments have preceded something liberating taking place for His people in direct relation to His promises (re: Israel being redeemed from Egypt. Israel being destroyed by Babylon and later regathered).

Helping people change their views by Holy Spirit anointed preaching of the gospel, and using biblical truth, is good and a scriptural command. However, without the kind of supernatural workings - far above our capabilities - upon nations and societies, we shouldn't expect to see much change in government or world views by most people. It's a hard thing for folks to accept, but it is in fact a combination of judgment and grace that brings good change, sometimes severe judgment and always overflowing grace.

Re: Changing the World

Patrick,

Speculation about the likelihood that 'others' will make the necessary sacrifices is, of course, just that - speculation. As Christians, we are called, individually and as a Church, to offer ourselves in time, talent and life itself to do what's right even in the face of increasingly challenging circumstances. As each one of us discovers more of the truth, and adjusts our world-view accordingly we increase the likelihood that our contacts with 'others' will be beneficial. Thank you for a thoughtful response.

Changing the World

Thanks for your kind response to my post. And I do agree that Christians should have a prevailing faith and devotion in establishing a true biblical world view within their respective churches. Americans must be informed, involved, and do all they can to keep the country balanced as "One Nation Under God."

I respectfully disagree with the focus of your response on one portion of my reply, and the charge that there is speculation in it. The question I posed is just highlighting a simple biblical truth and a reminder of human reality in conjunction with that truth. The Barna group survey and its gathered statistics, along with world history and contemporary conflicting church theologies, pretty much seal that point. In addition to the efforts of a few faithful, we can also expect some serious biblical judgments taking place in the immediate days ahead - in and outside the church - because hearts are hard.

You asked the question, "What do you think?"

And that's what I think.
