Tyranny comes to Champaign, IL

the tactic is...

one step at a time and total control will come. Innocently started with airlines banning the smoking on flights. Understandable because of the closed in conditions etc. And another step and on and on. And now, anywhere in public. I expect that I will not be allowed to light my pipe while playing golf in the wide open spaces. What is next?

No place is safe

Well, if Champaign, IL (great little town) can pass this thing, almost any town can and likely will. It's a sad day when activists rule the roost and science looses out. They'd have you think there's a "consensus" on this issue as well. Well, read the journal articles, dig a bit, and see for yourself. Think they'd have to change their confidence interval to boost their numbers if it was real? Think they'd have to allow papers with RR's below the standard 2.0 minimum level if the numbers were real?

Oh, and don't let your eyes and nose fool you. (They actually aren't that good at protecting you- think of radon or carbon monoxide- can you smell those?) Airlines no longer have to vent their air frequently due to the lack of smoke... this means fewer cabin/outside air changes in a trip, and more stagnant bacterial laced air in the cabin. I'd rather go back to frequent air exchanges, personally.

Prohibition has always increased use of a substance in the past, created a black-market for sub-standard and unhealthy goods. The alcohol prohibition showed us this to a great deal. Nazi Germany showed us very similar facts also. [Read about the Nazi link to smoking bans and Goebbels propaganda campaign.] Nazi-Germany under the ban on smoking actually saw an increase in cigarette use (in their own houses).

Finally, I leave you with one more concept... look up John's Hopkins press release on HPV and throat/mouth cancer. A man or woman who has had promiscuous oral sex is almost 3 times as likely to get throat/mouth cancer than a first-hand smoker! That is truly amazing! And yet, I hear nothing about it on the news... HPV is shown to be a larger cancer causer than smoking cigarettes... very interesting.

Indeed

Thanks for the comments Allen. I'm definitely aware of all the shady methods the EPA and other health organizations have used to arrive at secondhand smoke conclusions they desire.

Hadn't heard about the oral sex-cancer link though, that's an interesting one. I'll have to look at that. It's funny that so many people find it disgusting to put a cigarette/cigar in one's mouth, but not certain anatomical parts (that certainly don't belong in mouths).
