Real Conservative? What if...

Bad examples

Bush barely eked out two elections against opponents who were prima facie examples of absurd leftism and McGovernism taken to its extreme.

Against this kind of opposition the elections both boiled down to a few hundred or thousand votes? He should have been able to kick their a$ses to the moon and back.

The problem is well-addressed on the new essay on my blog. Take a look.

You and I have addressed it before, Sanity.

Further, every time you refer to Reagan in your posts and essays, you refuse to set the context of the time and era in which he was operative. Frankly, I think this is disingenuous on your part. I can do the same thing to JFK: in today's political clime he'd be a Republican, this Democrat icon and NRA Life Member. I don't know how old you are, but I'm 58, and proudly voted and campaigned twice for Ron. He's the last President for whom I cast a vote of which I was proud.

Okay, the system's giving me a hard time. I hope this won't multiple-post. If so, I apologize.

Brian

Did Reagan do more than give great speeches when it came to your pet issue, immigration? Saying it was a mistake doesn't take away from the fact that it was a mistake.

Government grew under him and so did the deficit.

He cut and ran out of Lebanon, buckling under the media.

He tried to cut a deal with the Soviets to fight space invaders.

Exactly what did he DO that makes you so proud?

And as you can make a case for JFK being more Republican than Democrat...I can make a case for Reagan being bashed by the conservatives of today because no one could live up to his hype, not even him.

As for bad example...Brian, Bush won by 3 MILLION votes...the map was painted Red and in 2002, The GOP cleaned up every where...Hawaii had her first Republican governor in 40 years.

In fact, do you know how bad it had become for the Dems? In 2004, Hawaii was in real danger of going for Bush. This for a state so Blue, it was one of only two to vote for Carter for his 2nd term.

Now let's take a look at the popular vote for Reagan vs Bush...

1980 Reagan 43,903,230
2000 Bush 50,460,110

1984 Reagan 54,455,472
2004 Bush 62,040,610

Not bad for barely making it huh?

When you talk about who Bush ran against, lets also remember who Reagan ran against...Jimmy Carter (Donald Duck would have beat Carter) and Mondale who cease to inspire anyone much less his own base.

Brian

Except for the fact you don't like anything Bush has done, how is the country doing.

Yes I too voted for Ron twice, and was very glad to do it.

Bush also upped the black vote he got in 2004. Along with Red all over the map. Would you rather have had Gore in 2000 [to face the 9/11 attacks?] /or Kerry in 2004? Those were the choices.

Or do you believe that McCain would have been the nominee and he would have won? Can't base things on what if, we have to deal with what is.

Bush is conservative but not a conservative. I disagree alot with Bush and the Republicans, but
with a Democrat in there we would not get to thew table.

jevica, a question

Brian's Bush bashing and absolutism...exactly who has benefitted?
