I am against Universal Health Insurance not only because its against a free market society, but also because Health Care is one of those things our decisions affect.

Why should other citizens be required by law to subsidize health insurance for smokers? Or overweight people? This is known to be detrimental to health, yet what incentive do they have to act in a healthful way if they are not responsible for the effects of their own lifestyle?

Universal health insurance is the perfect example of leftist "fixing" of problems. As you pointed out, beginning in the 1960s we began adopting leftist, artificial government controls into the health care market. Now that prices have risen exponentially, rather than recognize the cause as government controls like medicare being the original "solution," there is simply another "crisis" needing to be "solved." Nobody seems to notice the problem originated with the first solution.

.. I agree that personal accountability is the first thing that goes out the window when the Govt provides for people.

Conservatives will have to battle the Socialist impulse to 'fix' problems. We will have to (painfully) rip out the many bandaids that have been 'liberally' applied.

However, it appears that we are colluding with the Socialists in adding more layers - such as UHC.
