Say it Ain't So, Susan! Not the Race Card from You, Too?

The Race Card!

Hi, Cindy! Long time reader, first time commenter! Susan has in the past been the most reasonable of Dem pundits. Toward the end of election night in 2004, she had a total breakdown on TV when the election went for Bush. I was sad for her. The left/Dems/Obama are the ones who have brought race into the campaign. It will always be an issue that will never go away. The GOP is wise to not go near it. Don`t know if you go to Breitbart, but there is a video posted of an Obama supporter who is ecstatic she will never have to worry about her mortgage or gas again, once Obama is elected! Funny that no one ever suggests the need for assimilation for all peoples! Another welfare state is on the horizon that could make the Great Society look successful. Great writing and a good post, Cindy! Thanks!

dawndawn - on race

Thanks for commenting! I am a reader of yours, as well! I remember what happened in '04 - now that you mention it - and had hoped she had moved beyond that much "investedness" this year. After reading this column, I see she has not. I did indeed see the clip on Breitbart that you are referring to, and Rush played the audio of it on Friday. Unfortunately, that woman will still be paying to fill up her car, she'll be paying her mortgage, and she'll be looking for a job, too...if she has time after a long afternoon of standing in line to receive whatever medical care she's allowed to have with the new governmental health care plan. The allure of "free" stuff surely is seductive; we must continue to promote the true libertly of personal responsibility of freedom! Hang tough, have courage, and thanks for reading my blog!

Susan's just preparing for the worst

According to Susan:

"The only way all these polls could be that far off is if people are lying in numbers never before seen in American politics."

I'm actually pretty sure there are people who are lying. But the conclusion that it can only be caused by people who are racist toward blacks is a very, well, racist perspective. I can think of many reasons why people would lie. For one, we're tired of having to explain our opposition to Obama and being called racist because of that opposition. It's easier to just say you support him. For another, there are many Democrats who do not like Obama because of the contentious primary, yet they must continue to live with their liberal friends, and would probably be disowned if they let it slip that they won't vote for Obama. For people like this, the only safe place to support McCain is the voting booth. That's the beauty of the private ballot!

There's so much wrong with her assessment. But the fact that she's even making it shows that she's nervous. She's already preparing this year's "hanging chad" defense. It's the only way she can get herself out of bed in the morning if Obama loses. I remember how devastated she was after the 2004 election.

Your post reminded me of something I wanted to post about, the reverse racism that's going on in this election. I don't even know why we have to call it "reverse racism". It's just racism. So many people are voting for this vacant candidate PRECISELY BECAUSE he is black. It's infuriating.

Meege - racism

You are right - it's not forward or reverse - it's just racism, if one votes based on skin color alone. There are vast differences in the two tickets across the board on policy - there is no need to vote on color/race. BUT, if one is going to play the race card, then play it fairly. If there are those who are voting FOR Obama based ON race, then let's examine that, too.
Won't the analysis of these factors be interesting on Tuesday night?

Race Card

First off, Bekel needs to go. Another real intelligent guy who paid the prostitute with a check years ago. Do these people have brains? No!

I was disappointed in her article. I can actually say there are people lying. I have been one of them. I have had pollsters call me. I still don't know how they got my phone number nor why they think I am still a registered Democrat.

As for PA, I have a lot of relatives there. During the primary they switched parties and voted for Clinton. They were voting against Obama. I do not shair their nasty language or beliefs, but they are not voting for Obama because he is black. Racism, sad to say is out there and people have been lying. I do believe that more people than we think have been lying. That is one reason I have not given any credibility to the polls this election.

Sue - interesting info

Beckel is irritating, that's for sure! Pennsylvania is going to be so important. I can't remember where I wrote this, but I met some folks at a wedding who were lying to pollsters, not out of racism, but simply because they wanted to skew the polls on purpose. They were just tired of being polled!
I understand that there is racism among some people - my disagreement with Ms Estrich is that it will not be the ONLY explanation of Obama's loss, if he loses. That ignores the policy/philosophical differences, and the backlash against the media influence peddling that was so dominant in this election cycle. Thank you for your candid comments. We could all use more honest information.
