We must also consider:
• Was the conflict based solely on hate of someone
• Does one of the sides wear civilian clothing and hide in the suburbs
• Does one of the sides declare that the slaughter of the opposition must take place before peace can be achieved
• Is the main ambition of either side to rule the world at any cost

Appreciate someone able to distill the Just War Doctrine of western Christianity to an easy to understand format.

The definition of Just War goes back to St Augustine and continues through St Thomas Aquinas and Grotius. And it has not really changed.

It almost seems as though I'd just finished reading many of your points in "Between Pacifism and Jihad" by J Daryl Charles.
