Putting Lipstick on a Socialist

Can someone tell me what socialism is?\
For example, when McCain Palin propose to spend 45 billion dollars of taxpayer money over 5 years to help special needs kids...what do you call that.
Is it spreading the wealth, socialism..or doing the right thing?

I was born in Socialistic Czechoslovakia and lived there till i was 20, then I moved to the USA. I remember like it was yesterday. Socialism has been tried in many countries and it failed in all facets of our lives. Socialism is basically public ownership of economic means. It does not value individual drive or intellect. If you make more money than others, they will take it away and give it to others. The government decided where and how you live. Why apply yourself if you are not rewarded? This creates depression in people, because they act like sheep. And if you don't, you are prosecuted as a criminal because you don't follow the rules of the society...you are selfish if you accumulate more than your fellow comrade. See, I detect many traits of Obama's plan or statements as Socialistic. People start to worship him as we used to worship Lenin and Carl Marx. In addition, is he talking of some civil arm forces now? I remember the state police back then spying on people that don't comform...I could write a book on this...

Norris, it is the role of the government to help the helpless (the special needs kids e.g.), BUT we cannot make it institutionalized habit. Like with anything, if the government examines the programs that don't work, cancels them and fund the good ones...that good. Spreading the wealth means you take it from the rich and give it to the less rich, not because they need it, but because Obama feels it is fair. Fair? you get rich by taking chances investing money whether it is $1,000 or $1,000,000, it something you believe will work...See, I am middle class and have $10,000 in cash...what's stopping me from investing it and turn it into $25,000? Low tolerance for risk and no idea where to invest it...

Thank you for writing this. President-elect Obama is the least experienced since Abraham Lincoln. He lost a election to the Illinois State legislature... Amazing!!
