DC Life, An Observation

re:

this was one girlfriend's reaction to this:

So as for DC life, here's my woman's input... I thought it was right on in many ways! If I were to do a similar analysis of the DC male, I would have to include something on the 21-24 year olds who frequent receptions, happy hours, anything that promises free food and alcohol and the opportunity to mingle with other cash-strapped totem pole bases. It's there that they meet other women of their same age and position who haven't found their sugar daddy. This is an important group b/c I think it's within that group that people are typically unattached, leading some to randomly hook up and then experience awkwardness later when they do begin to reach positions of influence. Just a thought.

Also, some thoughts on phase three. Women in the 30-35 range probably talk to you easily b/c you are young, new to the scene, and a welcomed change from the men they've been around for the 10 years they've been here. The hard thing, I think, for the phase three woman relates right back to phase two. Men who are the same age as phase 3 are typically out with women from phase 2. Then all they are left with is memories of when they too were in phase 2. Not always, but sometimes phase 3 can be kind of sad.

But personally, I would much rather work my way up with someone my age than settle for someone older whose weight has gone north. In the end, perks aren't worth it. I think Big from Sex and the City summed it up best. Carrie doesn't understand why so many men in New York date models ("modelizers"). She's disturbed to discover that her then-crush, Big, is also a modelizer. So she confronts him about it. His response: "The thing is, there are just so many damn attractive women in this city. But in the end, you just want to be with the one who makes you laugh." Big's right. The well-connected may be fun, but in the end, it's the normal guys who get the girls worth having.
