I Beg To Differ

Well, Flag

As the old saying goes, even bad publicity is better than no publicity, and I see I'm mentioned in your very thoughtful essay here. Thank you, I appreciate it.

I just posted, last night, a new essay entitled "Me and my Armey" over at my blog that addresses a lot of the issues you've raised here, drawing on a lengthy thought piece by Dick Armey. Again, this is obviously an issue on which you and I have some differences, and that's fine. I'm still not convinced the Reps are going to lose anything.

However, when you get a chance, take a look at the "Armey" piece; it may give you food for thought.

Good essay, man.

Thanks.

I had a feeling that you woould be my first poster and I appreciate your comments. And although we may disagree on some points, we can both heartily agree that the GOP is probably not in as bad as shape as the naysayers think. If there is a Democrat Congress on Nov. 8, you can color me surprised!

We are really not that far apart

I am going to vote. I just can't tell others to vote for someone who will not be anything but a democrat in Republican clothing.

But I really don't see this as the risk in the war. I put a blog on today about that. I just don't think that the US population has the will and the endurance to do what is needed to win.

Flag, Brian,

This is the kind of discussion and disagreement that you will never see on the left side of the aisle. One of you guys would have been deemed off-message and would have been drowned in hate. Congratulations to both of you for writing such civil and thought-provoking posts. Keep up the great writing.

Husker,

"I just don't think that the US population has the will and the endurance to do what is needed to win."

I think that's in large part to the media.

Oh, I agree with the complicity of the media. But I think it is deeper. I'll be posting later to talk about it, but the main theme is that, as a nation, we have nothing worth killing or dying for. No G*d, no belief in destiny, and nothing that makes nations great. We have to rediscover this or be sent to the ash-heap of history.

With you all the way, Flagwaver

I will be calling all family and friends that I know vote 'R' on election day, and reminding them to vote...actually on Monday, the 6th, because I've been asked to help the old ladies at the polling station with their job. I did it during the 2004 election, and there were 6! lawyers there, making sure we were doing our jobs correctly -- (3 from the Rs and 3 from the Ds.).

I didn't let anyone know that I was a conservative, and just immersed myself in the voting process, verifying IDs for new registrants and keeping a double-count for votes and voters.

Even though my city is rampant with vote fraud, I'm proud to say that my polling station was run wonderfully. Two of the lawyers present, in the evening, gave me compliments on the wonderful professional job I was doing. Neither one was aware of my party affiliation -- as it is law in my state to not support any candidate or party while working the polls.

My reward for my unbiased job? Re-election for George W. Bush, even though my state went BLUE!
(I believe because of the rampant fraud) Our governor (a Democrat)is up for re-election this time. If the Republican defeats him, we can look forward to some voter ID laws being passed and signed, to curb vote fraud.

Loved your blog, Flagwaver. Sorry I went off on a tangent there. I agree fully that we can't act like children or Democrats (the same thing, in my eyes)and refuse to vote because we're disappointed. That is dereliction of duty, in my book.

Husker Jeff, is it a possiblity that if the Republicans retain both houses of Congress, would the country give the go-ahead to kick some butt over there, and WIN? I don't know, but one can hope.

Mom and Wolf

I pray that it helps either way. I did a 2 part blog this week on the subject of where I see we are weak and how I recognize we must learn to have something other than our creature comforts and wealth as a goal. Or see our nation destroyed. And, the Republican Conservatives are the only ones I see who have any expansive goals.

I'm late to your post, but not least in my appreciation for your analysis and clarity. I have conservatives to vote for, so your arguments are moot in my case. I now admit that if it keeps the d's out of control i would even prefer to see those rats Snowe and Chaffee get re-elected. Wouldn't it be super if enough outside shots like Steele and Harris make it to keep control even if Chaffee and Snowe lose? Woldn't THAT send a message to the R policy wonks and RINOs?
