I know my neighbors
But it's because our kids play together.
And because we trade off plowing the road in the snow.
Seeing as you use myspace, I expect you're much younger than I am, but I haven't found too many neighbors wanting to hang out....unless you really mesh with them due to politics, religion, etc. Although a friend of my from graduate school hangs out with her neighbors all the time. They are always at each other's homes.

Age, Politics, Religion
Could be any of those, really. I was one of the younger folks in the neighborhood when I moved here and definitely one of the few with no kids. The tough thing about politics and religion is if you don't have those in common, sometimes it makes it rough for getting along or at least makes interacting less pleasant. At my prior workplace, I was surrounded by lots of very vocal, very liberal folks. We did have a small Bible Study group but still had to be careful about expressing any kind of strong beliefs about right and wrong. It was all about relativism. And I hated it.
I kind of cringe where I work now since it's the complete opposite and most of us are very conservative, and often not shy about expressing it. I feel bad for the few lefties we've got. I remember how unpleasant it was to be outnumbered like that.

I've never known a lefty
to be quiet about issues they're passionate about, even in large numbers of conservative circles. I wouldn't feel too bad for them. Just as soon as you do, they'll say something that'll probably make you nuts anyway.
