Statistical Extrapolation

I saw the article about the 600,000 deaths and when I read that it was based on a whole 1849 families, and that the full range was from about 450,000 to 725,000 I had to laugh. Imagine if the death rate in NY was based on a "representative" sample of households, as opposed to real numbers, which according to those released by the Iraqi government is a fraction of this extrapolated number? It is amazing what nonsense passes for truth and facts these days.
