State of the Union 2008

State of the Union 2008

For once, I have to agree with Bob Schiefer that this was not one of the President's better speeches. With the exception of a few paragrapphs, it was a laundry list of proposals that will be ignored by the Dem Congress. Reminiscent of Bill Clinton State of the Union addresses. As John Kohl noted, the applause was strictly partisan, with the Dems sitting on their hands frequently. A vivid example of the destructiuve partisanship in Wahington that prevents legislative cooperation.

Actually, I thought the remarks of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius were superb. She characterized her speech as an American response and not just a Dem response, calling for an end of the rancor in Washington, followed by bipartisan cooperation and progress. I know that's what I hope can be achieved next year after the November elections.

State of the Union 2008

Sebelius' remarks were typical Democrat speak. Her message that the government needs to act to get this country moving again is 180 degrees the wrong way. The government needs to get the heck out of the way and let our work ethic and spirit of enterprise shine like we know it can. All the government needs to do is lower the tax rates for individuals and corporations. That alone will spur investment and create jobs. Free market capitalism can solve our energy dependence problems and many others too numerous to mention. Government is not the anwwer. It's the problem.
