for a victory. Obama could do us a world of hurt by then; i.e. appoint another liberal activist SC Judge. I will hang in here till the winner is announced sometime in the wee hours of Nov. 5th. (hopefully without a recount). I am an optomist, especially where our country is concerned. I just can't bring myself to believe that our good ole' USA citizens would betray our fighting men and women and put this inexperienced socialist narcicist in the whitehouse; not to mention his bitter half. I pray every single day that God will deliver us from this spawn of Satan.(I don't like Obama. Can you tell)?

you may find the issue isn't victory. It's that some believe their is no difference between Obama and McCain. Just the party affiliation letter after their name. Those who don't feel that way are the nose holders that lack principle. I don't share that view and choose to believe there is a chance with McCain. So let the rain begin.

Excellent post sir! I have my differencees with McCain, but his picking Palin made me feel much more at ease. I am for now on board but tepid, you know? I just don't know what an Obama presidentcy would - or would not be able to do. My bigest concner, though , and likely the concern of many here at TH is SCOTUS. But, even if Obama wins and gets to appoitn some Justices, they've already decided the 2nd Amendment and I will have my 1911 with me. If they want it...

It's being a realist, not an idealist in politics. Waiting for the perfect candidate leaves you on the sidelines. I don't advocate all of McCain's ideas, nor Bush's, nor Reagan's nor any supposedly perfect conservative candidate of the past. But when we decide who we're going to vote for, if we are lukewarm about them winning, we might as well give up. I'm not that kind.

I have been cogitating a similar address. Great, you have saved me the trouble. I like those guys over at the SCDS and truly do agree with a lot of what they have to say. I am kinda tired, though, of being called a "nose holder" and other such names. I have to agree with your characterization of the political field as it is currently striped. Given what has happened to the markets last week and what is being cooked up by the Administration and Congress this weekend, it appears that limited, Constitutional government is slipping away. Who will hold on the remnants of what we have? Certainly not Obama.

There's no comparison
Good read. I don't buy this notion that McCain is the same as Obama. McCain was not my first, or second, choice but he is a far better choice than the Obamination. With that said, Palin also gives us another reason to vote for McCain. First just because he picked her but also what about this scenario:
It is likely McCain, because of his age, is a one-termer. He wins, he gets what he wants and I think he will be happy with one term. That leaves Palin time to get on her feet nationally and gain valuable experience. This sets her up for a run in 2012 against Hillary as the likley candidate. I think unless McCain completely tanks or Palin blows it over the next four years, both unlikely, Palin is the lilely winner of a contest against the also likley candidate Hillary and we have a young conservative in the White House. We really could be looking at owning the WH for the 8 - 20 years with this one election. If we don't blow it and get mad, take our toys home, and refuse to play.

bdubya, you are right and so is Bobbie--Osama will destroy so much in this country if he gets in for even one term. It is ridiculous to even consider such a scenario--the SCDS is playing with the future of our country.
Thanks for your comment on my letter to Grandpa. I agree that we will need God's mercy to see us through, especially if we cannot dump this nightmare of a candidate in November, and dump him once and for all.
I once posted a list of all the black candidates I would vote for over McCain (and still would),but Osama will never be one of them. He is stupid, he is NOT Christian, he is a Marxist, and I have a really bad feeling about his, ahem, CHARACTER, or lack thereof.

I fear you are correct in your assesment that it won't cahnge anyone in the SCDS's mind. But it is nto because you lack inteligence or are not articulate enough.
As i have said it is because they have staked their ground, they made up their minds and are now wholly bent on obtaining converts of their own.

Good article and well thought out and written. I saw your post over at Right Brainer's and decied to see what you posted.
My husband, Goshawk, and I both decided quite some time ago, we would have to vote for McCain and hope for the best. We both researched Obama quite extensively and there is nothing in that man's background that is good. He has associations with the worst of Chicago-land, the dirtiest politics in the country.
Out of his own mouth, in his books, he talks about his Marxist/communist leanings. He worked for Saul Alinsky in Chicago. That was his "community service" getting people riled up and so forth. He is associated with ACORN and worked for them too. Good grief, how much does it take to figure out what this guy is about.
So, we vote the McCain/Palin ticket and for the SCDS, all I can say, is their plan won't work. Their method of casting a 3rd party vote will just be a blip on the screen and I've never seen anything develop out of voting 3rd party. It's a waste. Unfortunately the SCDS has become a hostile place to visit so I don't go there any more. I don't care to get beaten up when I go to someone's blog or be called names and demeaned. I don't need to subject myself to that kind of abuse simply because I have a different opinion.

The dumbing down of America
As someone who is devoted to the proposition that only a mass movement of the center to the right will yield a more conservative country. I must take exception to "the dumbed down and lazy intelect' comments.
I humbly submit that people of America are neither lazy nor dumb, in general. I further submit that though they appear appathetic, it is not because they don't have the capacity to understand. Rather their attitude is a refelction of the inundation of public schools and media onslaught of left wing ideals. They have not and will not adopt those ideals specifically, though they are forced to by their apathy.
It is, and shall ever remain my contention that the American people are not stupid or lazy, they are tired! Tired of the same ole same ole, the bait and swicth of the GOP, the foolish socialism of the Dem's. They need to know that there is something that can be done about it, and its our job to tell them.
Shameless Plug... My recent post in the series "Sun Tzu & the Culture War" deals specifically with this topic.

It seems like everytime I drive anywhere, I am almost hit by someone talking/texting on their cell while driving. I meet parents of some of the kids at my kid's school, and see how they let their kids dress/act. I go the mall and see tarted up 12 yr old girls and boys with their pants down around their a%$...these are prevailing norms as opposed to exceptions. I just returned from the social security office and saw 2 young black(?) girls there, both with infants, and one of them was pregnant. They couldn't have been more than 17. Now, it is certainly debatable about what percentage of the population is "dumbed down" and "lazy"...but I have a hard time believing that the situation has improved over the past 20 years as opposed to getting worse. However, I think we can all agree on the causes... and that's the salient issue. I'll check your piece out later.
Thanks so much for stopping and throwing in your 2 pennies worth!!

Agreed the social norms seem to be relaxed and getting worse, and yes we know where the culprit lays.
It hs not improved in the last 20 years, sadly.
What you witnessed is but a tiny microcosm of america. I was speaking specifically about the center portion. When I see what you saw, it reminds me of how much work there is to be done on all fronts in the war of ideas.
We have lost alot of ground, but the battle isn't over, and the war isn't lost.
i guess the point i was trying to make, was that we run the risk of acting like the dem's when we say America is dumbed down.
Its a little too similar to "...bitterly clinging to guns and religion" in its whole-handed painting of America.
two cents! Is that all my opinions worth! J/K.

I think part of the reason you haven't seen much debate here, is because 1) they have toned down their message a bit. still advocating third party, but accepting that the center has to shift.
2) there was a long discourse at the orphanage about armed revolt against the government... way to sell your opinion SCDS.
and 3) Its always easier to preach to a choir with hellfire and brimstone than to take on dissenters with reason.

you missed the first part, Moderate Middle. I speak of those who will not, cannot make a political stand, because they choose not to invest any intellectual energy to actually learn what it is they are voting for. These are the people who vote for Hope & Change®. Now you are bringing a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to the debate, and I think you do TH a great service. But I won't buy into the premise that they have been abandoned by the political process and need to be reached out to. No, I say THEY have abandoned the process, and willfully decide it's more important to watch Dancing With the Stars than any political program. These are the folks most coveted by the Enemedia.

Correct I did miss it, my bad.
I will cede your point that THEY have given up on the political process.
Will you consider the premise that the result (i.e giving up on the political process) is not a point with which to assign blame but rather to capitalize on?
Dig a little deeper, and you will find that many who have "abandoned" the political process have done so out of disgust for what's it become. They are tired of sorting through the BS on both sides, that when offeered a choice between rep and dem it is impossible for them to make a distinction.
I submit that they can be revivied, through patient persitent and reasoned debate.
I may be wrong, Lord knows I have been before.
The left wants them to stay apathetic, it allows their minority to abscond elections and further prolifigate their socialistic agenda. Who do we serve when we abandon them also?

“When it's all said and done, I believe we are best served with opposing executive and legislative branches. I know for a fact that we are ill served with one party running both, regardless of who that may be.”
And the only choices we have right now is either a Democrat or … a Democrat. Which leaves the legislative branches. And we are all for electing Conservatives to the legislature.
Look, I can’t stand the thought of Obama. I don’t want him to win. I just want McCain to lose. Because if he wins, then Conservatives have lost. I don’t think he will listen to the Conservative wing of his party. He hasn’t in the past, why should he start now? I think that the infighting within the Party looks bad on our part, and makes us weaker in the long run. The best hope that I see is to return the Party to a more Conservative position.
At least with Obama in, the Republicans will be able to oppose him honestly, and hopefully keep him tied up and harmless.
That being said, and I’ve told the SCDS this as well, I think that McCain is headed for a win. As such, the other option is to register a protest vote so that maybe, MAYBE someone out there will recognize it and reign McCain in.
By the way, I got it… “Checkity check yourself before you wreck yourself!” Good line!

I agree that there are items in Mac's history that would indicate that he may not listen to the base. But I also believe that to characterize him as a democrat when he has a number of positions that aren't on that side of the equation isn't helpful. We can only speculate about whether or not we can "keep him in line", but it is a known quantity about what the chances are for moving Obama to the right. And if he gets a veto-proof congress we are cooked.

If the issue had been in doubt, I'd have probably have taken the advise of the folks at http://www.getdrunkandvote4mccain.com.
