Romney Declares His Candidacy and The New Republic Attacks Mormonism

Great post

Another outstanding work of research and analysis!

In reading about all the Liberal worries about Romney I must have missed their corresponding concerns about Keith Ellison, a man who does subscribe to a religion which brooks no authority other than itself.

Or is it possible they don't have those concerns?

Great post

Great comment by JDComments.

After all these years, why are these people only now concerned about Mormons? I have learned more about Mormons in the past four months than I ever knew.

Excellent analysis

Based on our Constitution, it would seem that a man's morality and ethics are going to be much more influential in his ability to make the decisions that need to be made in the Oval Office than his religion, although his morality and ethics are hopefully formed and informed by his religion. I strongly disagree with Mormon theology on nearly all points, but in practice they tend to be some of the most moral and ethical people on the face of the planet who truly walk their talk. I have more problems with a Clinton who claims to be a Christian and trashes the Bible with almost his every word and deed than someone like Romney. I still don't know how much I'd jump into his camp at this point, or whether or not I'd vote for him, but the objections raised based on his church affiliation are absurd.

To The Interface

You have a degree of maturity and wisdom many of those on the left do not have nor understand - it is especially evident with your statement: "I strongly disagree with Mormon theology on nearly all points, but in practice they tend to be some of the most moral and ethical people on the face of the planet who truly walk their talk."

You raise an excellent point with your comment about Keith Ellison. Why isn't the left upset at such a religionist as Ellison?

Great Summary

I find particularly intersting Linker's concerns about the president of the Mormon Church running the USA under a Romney presidency. This is a recycled piece of bigotry aimed at Catholic politicians (Al Smith and JFK) in the 20th century: that American under a Catholic president would be subject to the Pope. Can't leftists come up with better stuff than this?

For some Reason

Teh media is afraid of Romney.

Personally I dont think he has a prayer and I shudder at the prospect of him winning the nomination...but for some reason teh press is afraid of him. They will try to sink him in the primary.
