One correction. You wrote: "Abortion was legalized in a constitutional amendment"
Actually, it was Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion, a SCOTUS decision, not an amendment.

Skep! -- Great analysis of the many hot button issues that confront us today -- You skillfully wove the cloak of defeatism around the Democratic Party and they are wearing it! -- What is happening in California today could well be a harbinger for the voters of American to indeed make that turn to the Right!
PS -- The map works great -- Still can`t believe Wash and Ore! --

Well, speaking of the map
Where did you get that? It's not at all accurate.
Here's the link to RealClearPolitics electoral map:

OBAMA MELTDOWN
The great pretender Obama will be destroyed in a dukakis like landslide ,as a hard left socialist ,with a muslim name cann't be elected in a center right country...it's all a liberal fantasy...like a silly schoolgirl crush on a handsome poseur, that comes to a painful end...Obama is decomposing, but it's all beneath the surface...like a iced over lake that thaws out in the spring, leaving only the surface ice...Obama is like a clay statue ..one good kick and it all collaspes!
Obama is a SINISTER testamant to the sweet seductive drum beat of the MSM

I was talking about the california Constitution which was amended by a ballot measure. if Roe were overturned that would be the law in this state.
You can make your own map on RCP. I'm factoring in the Bradley Effect and thinking about places that have a lot of Default Dems. No scientific 'accuracy' is claimed.

This is my guess map. I'm thinking that the Default dems in Ohio and Virginia are totally lost to Obama. He didn't win them in the primaries and he wont win them in the general. He has ZERO chance in Indiana, which RCP rates as a toss-up. You can call this a fantasy map but I really think a hidden surge to the right is out there.
Wash and Ore are still in the Obama column on the 'real' maps but I dont think they will be proven accurate.

You see how easy it is to appear credible? Brian asks where I got that map. The people who are trying to manipulate you into thinking Obama is doing better than he is have their fantasy map at RCP.com and I have mine. They give weight to various demographic groups and assume that the answers to their leading poll questions are honest. There is almost as much speculation in the 'official' RCP map as there is in mine. Mine is just as spiffy-looking. I've got Illustrator and Photoshop, I can do some dandy graphs if that makes me any more credible.

Great job. There is a lot of manipulation going on. The push for Obama has sunnk to new lows in fear tactics, race-baiting and the like. People are seeing through the BO camp and MSM attemtps to totally decied this election. But, then again thye have to use fear and other covert manipulative techniques, because their candidate has no substance.

Ah... the California Constitution. Got it. I didn't see that qualifier in the essay.
BTW, I don't think the RCP map is speculative. They're using data provided by Rasmussen, Gallup, CNN, CBS, Pew, etc. That's data as good as any.
Actually, looking at your map, it looks like you actually used the RCP map but tweaked in your own changes, which the site allows. I'm not sure what you based those changes on.
As of right now, and based on data current up to last night, the Electoral Map is showing Obama - 202, McCain - 189, Tossups - 147. When you factor the Tossups in at their current polling data, you end up with Obama - 273, McCain - 265, which has actually been very static for about 10 days.

The smell of burning grass is ALWAYS in the air in California. HaHaHa!
It's probably just another brush fire or a Grateful Dead concert.
I wouldn't be to quick to count Virginia. I am seeing something here I have never encountered in a presidential year, Obama signs dotting my own neighborhood.
This is not exactly what you would expect to find in an area where the opening day of deer season shuts down businesses, bass rigs outnumber Mini-Vans, and NASCAR is more fractious than Islam.

The problem I have with RCP is that they average a whole bunch of polls together, including outliers with wide margins. Unlike reputable commentators I only am saying that i have a strong feeling that there's a hidden anti-Obama vote that the polls arent counting. All I did was go to 'do you own map' on the RCP site and then did a screen capture. After reading Sarge's comment I might rethink it. I live in a forest of Obama yard signs. When the first episode of 'Project Runway' is on the streets are deserted in my neighborhood.
BTW- Do not miss 'Burn After Reading'!

There's a very interesting dynamic this time. It'll be hard to say how racism factors in, for instance. I'm sure it hasn't completely disappeared, but how many people are going to fess up to it? I suspect that's one of the goofs the Dems made in nominating Obambi; they'd have been better off with Hillary, their stronger candidate, IMO.
No need to rehash McCain's problems; we've discussed those a hundred times, at least.
So this time, BOTH parties have fielded arguably their weakest candidates.

Actually, I disagree with BrianR. I believe your map is closer to accurate than "realclearpolitics". You are showing a map dated 11/04/08. BrianR's map is dated 09/21/08.

A woman who works in a health club needs money for plastic surgery and liposuction so when her and her whacky co-worker find the memoirs of a fired CIA analyst in the gym they mistake it for top secret info and try to blackmail him into giving her enough money to get the surgery. A true comedy of errors.
