Palin: A Critical Choice

I'd like more information

I am unable to vote in the Republican primary, as I will not be old enough, however, I would like more information regarding Ms. Palin's voting record. Is there a blog or a website that can name specific issues she has voted for, or positions she has taken, recently?

On the surface, she sounds like a candidate I would tend to support (i.e. Christian, gun-totin', pro-life), but based on her "lack of an opinion" on immigration and the lack of information on her stance on terrorism, I am not ready to throw in my support. Additionally, I see many people supporting her who also back GOP candidates that I wouldn't vote for if my life depended on it. That does not encourage me. A person cannot espouse conservatism and want to vote for McCain, simultaneously; since there seem to be many people in the McCain/Guiliani camp who are supporting Palin, I am beginning to think Ms. Palin is not the conservative people are labeling her.

George W. Bush ran as a "Compassionate Conservative", and he is not a conservative in the slightest. I do not want another Compassionate Conservative in the White House, I want an *intolerant*, *hardnosed* Conservative in the White House. Thus, the more I know about Ms. Palin's voting record and positions on various issues, the better judgement I can make of her political leanings.

I am not writing her off; I simply would like to do my homework. So if you can post a comment on my blog with the link to a webpage with the information I'd like to see, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for informing me of Ms. Palin. It's nice to see that there are other Republican candidates waiting in the wings.

Palin on Issues

Dear JAG: Immigration is NOT an issue in Alaska. It's just too far away from borders to be a concern. It's like snow-skiing in Florida.

For inforamtion on Sarah's positions on various issues -- energy is the BIG issue in Alaska, along with political corruption (which Sarah has fought against) -- go to http://palinforvp.blopspot.com, produced by "Elephantman," a college student and political activist. Also, you can look at the Governor's web site, which is at http://www.gov.state.ak.us/? - Gov. Sarah's website

Most of the bloggers 4 palin (and you can see the total growing fast) are of voting age, but several are in their early 20's. Anyone, voting age or not, who wants to support Sarah is very welcome.

Terrorism (mainly against energy facilities) is an issue in Alaska, but there tends not to be a lot publicity about it so as not to inform the terrorists. As far as I can determine, Sarah's position is similar to that of the top tier Republican presidential candidates.

Let me know if you'd like to support her and send along your e-mail and blog address. No one will ever receive that information without your permission.

Winning in 2008

Steve, while I'm glad for everyone's interest and I do think that Palin is someone we all can agree on...the Right needs to let people who put a price tag on their support...go.

I don't want to spend...and I think very few people do...another 16 years arguing if Palin is "conservative" enough.

Sanity, I Agree

Last paragraph is the key

Sanity, I agree. As I said in my response to JAG, I support the immigration bill as brokered by Kyl, Chambliss, Isakson, and others. The alternative is not some super enforcement by a President (and much of Congress) who don't want strong enforcement. The alternative is what we have now.

Sarah Palin's candidacy exists on its own right and is a product of her human excellence and character. As I said, my advice to her on immigration would be to say nothing. She should be a healer, not a divider.

I believe the term "amnesty," which is not what the bill provides, is a buzzword, a term designed to cloud the debate rather than illuminate it. It's a shorthand that exists in lieu of understanding what's in it the Bill.

I've been told this position makes me "not a conservative," which would come as news to anyone who knows me. I would submit my position makes me not a fool. It makes me a person unwilling to see the Republican Party become a permanent minority, a direction in which we're headed.

We have a situation where the Republican candidates are raising about 30-50% less money than the Democrats. We have a situation where major conservative Hispanics, including Linda Chavez, are bolting the Republican Party.

Politics, outside the Aryan Brotherhood and the farthest Left wing of the Democratic Party, does not consist of adhering to a death wish.

I believe the fact that Sarah is the mother of four children is very important -- much more important than her "position" on immigration, if she has one, which I doubt. It is a humanizing factor, something that will allow tens of millions of Americans to identify with her.

When we lost the Black Vote in 1964, it led to a situation where Blacks control 80 seats in Congress (40 Black members and 40 others who get in mainly with Black support). That means they start with an 80-0 lead every election. As you know, I don't want to make that a 150-0 lead within a few years.

In 1964 (gadzooks), I had problems with the Civil Rights Act, but I would have voted for it. I didn't have a death wish, and I still don't.

We are NOT going to march out 80-100 single issue candidates like daffy Tom Tancredo, who's currenty polling at a hefty one percent.

People who see the wisdom of Sarah's candidacy will support her. Those who don't won't. And that's fine with me.
