Central Europe, 1907

Old Europe

I found your post to be very interesting. I was also very interested in what you had to say about Christian Progressivism (in your comment on Walter Williams's recent post), of which, I am sorry to say, I have never heard. So much for my reputation for scholarly excellence. I look forward to reading more about that.

You would be interested in Missie Vassilchitkov's "Berlin Diaries. 1940-1945," an account of her time in Berlin during WWII. It's a fascinating picture of a German still with honorable officials and a sense of decency. She speaks of her acquaintances being appalled by the sinking of HMS Hood and the rumor of the RAF's dropping a wreath in honor of the Luftwaffe ace, Prince Heinrich zu Sayn-Wittgenstein.

Maybe all that is old hat to one with more knowledge about Europe.

The death of that admirable Europe that the two wars effected is just too sad to contemplate. And the children of the new Europe are contemptible.
