RE Rasmussen Poll
Thanks! I hadn't seen this poll result and no wonder - The Media would not want this widely reported!! Good job!

Thanks for the comments.
My thoughts are that the resurrection is one essential belief of Christianity. It doesn't mean that you are a Christian, but not believing it means that you definitely are not a Christian. I don't know if Rasmussen presented the orthodox belief in the physical resurrection of Christ. If not, the the results of the poll have less meaning. The poll does provide a starting point when you are witnessing to people. You can start by saying "79% of Americans believe in the resurrection of Christ. Are you one of those people?" If yes, take them to the scriptures describing the resurrection. If no, then start at a different point. For instance, "88% believe that Christ actually walked the earth 200 years ago. Are you one of those 88% ?" In other words the data from the poll could be a good basis for discussion.

There's something
about this pole that makes my head swim. If this many Americans actually believe all these aspects of Jesus' Biblical history, why in the world do they nod at homosexuality, shrug at abortion and "tolerate" to the max all manner of sin? Perhaps their "belief" is simply a matter of not arguing the point but having no spiritual investment in Christianity.

I must confess that I don't study scripture enough. Many of those who believe never crack the Book open at all. The way to determine what is true is to seek the wisdom of God through his revelation. That is my take on what you have so accurately pointed out in your comment. A little investment of time can make a world of difference in what you believe. Our poor efforts at evangelism and discipling are also complicit in the situation in our country. We need revival and reformation in a big way.

You are 100% correct to speculate about the context set for the questions asked and the manner in which they were asked. I always take polls for what they are, simple glimpses. I was in qualitative marketing research and the disparity between quantitative “polls” and what the target audience actually meant/believed was incredible in many instances.

Well, it appears that even a secular pacifist socialist govt. cannot stop believers in trusting the Biblical God, the Lord Jesus. BTW, philosophically, do you think that we believers will have the crunch, the backbone to stand up against these govt. flailings at our personal liberties or even if our lives , jobs, and church memberships are questioned and threatened? That will be truly a tyranny.

I don`t put much faith in polls but Rasmussen doesn`t seem to have an agenda. Something wonderous and miraculous did happen 2,000 years ago. Nice blog, Stefano!
