it all comes around
When I was a kid negro was considered more polite than colored. Then the activists told us that Black is the proper moniker. Lately we are told that African American is proper, but "the enlightened" call themselves "people of color".
Make up my mind, will ya!!??

I always though "people of color" was strange, as it sounded so much like "colored person", which was obviously not allowed.
Actually, I thought black was the best idea. They took a term which had previously been considered insulting and turned it neutral by adopting it. It shows strength to turn an insult into a common name.
The current trend seems the exact opposite of that. rather than taking the sting out of slurs, the current trend of ever changing names seems to be giving them added strength. Far better to adopt the mindset that took the hurt out of "black" rather than the terminally offended attitude that seems to prevail today.

And let's not forget that negro means black in Spanish. This is just an example of the Alinsky inspired tactic of humiliation (ha ha the unwashed doesn't know how insulting they are) and by constantly moving the expectation, we can never be sure to frame our position "intelligently". We can be made to look like hapless rubes no matter what term we choose to use.

The Better Approach
I recall many stories of eastern Euopean Jews responding to being called "yid" by correcting the pronunciation to "yeed" (which is the yiddish word for Jew, and the origin of the antisemitic slur).
That always struck me as the best way to respond to a racial slur, to simply accept it and turn it into something neutral.
The gay groups have quite effectively done with is Q-U-E-E-R (TH won't let me type the word). Blacks did it once with "black". But now we see groups forgetting how effective this tactic is and instead insisting on the right to change their name monthly.
It is just absurd, and it makes those insisting on constant name changes seem excessively sensitive.

True
Alinsky (hate to beat a dead horse) was influential to both Barry O and Mrs. Clinton.
In order to "organize" he stressed the need to identify (fabricate if necessary) a source of discontent. Then, among other things, to use ridicule as a primary weapon in building a caricature of your opposition.
He is truly the source of the "politics of personal destruction" that has come to dominate the political landscape, particularly on the left, today.

Thank you for so many posts. It is nice to know someone is reading what I have written and actually finding something of value in it.
I agree that a lot of our modern society centers on creating grievances to establish a claim for some sort of advantage. I think the shifting nomenclature is more a symptom of this than a cause.
However, as our society has decided that the claims of victims are more important than claims based on achievement, I suppose it is inevitable.
Again, thanks for all the posts.

you're welcome
I come here for a give and take. I don't remember how I found your stuff (there are so many blogs here). But I'm glad I did. You seem like an able thinker with an easy to read writing style. Shameless plug time:

I decided to start putting things down as a way to contribute in a small way to the conservative cause. Feel free to let me know when something new moves through your sausages to your keyboard. I will happily check it out.

Thank you for the kind words, and I will have to check out your blog as well.
My blog started out slowly as well. For a long time I wrote nothing, and even after I started I still didn't know if anyone read it for quite a while.
It is definitely much easier to write now that I have some feedback from readers, but it really hasn't changed how I write. Were the comments to stop tomorrow, I would probably still be pounding out just as many posts as before.
I can't really help myself. Once I started putting my thoughts into writing, I just can't stop.
Of course, as I said elsewhere, I am a frustrated fiction writer, so maybe this is just a way to get my writing bug out of my system. Since no one will publish my fiction, I write here.
