The ACLU came about after Balwin, the founder, had become head of the National Civil Liberties Bureau (NCLB). Balwin (I forgot his first name) changed the name to American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)...now I believe I'm somewhat right here, in that the NCLB was determined to be a seditious organization and to avoid further harrassment from the government he changed the wording in the charter and renamed it the ACLU.
I did read the history of the ACLU some years ago and have forgotten much but I still believe in their seditous nature.
