Illegal Alien Overload
Our U.S. lawmakers have left the building.
Some people leave their hearts in San Francisco. The above-mentioned servants will leave their brains somewhere when they get back to work after the elections. I am such a cynic. However, I truly do not believe that anything remedial will be done concerning the horrific illegal alien problem we have -- a problem that's bleeding us dry.
As an aside, personally I do not believe the politicians should take off just to go politicking. But I suppose it has always been thus, and we, the people, just have to wait till the election's over to get any action from them.
They were so eager to leave before the campaign started in earnest that we were lucky to have gotten a vote on the border fence. That must have been pushed through because they knew voters were fed to the teeth with do-nothingness.
Even the fence will not be as effective as we'd like. So much of the money appropriated for the "fence" will go toward tangential accouterments, and the borders will remain largely unattended, leaving the illegals to wander in at will.
There was a story in the Chicago Tribune today (10-22-06) titled "unpaid bills squeeze U.S. hospitals' resources," by Bruce Japsen, Tribune staff reporter. The story described the increase in uncompensated-care costs in community hospitals between 1980 and 2004 due to undocumented immigrants: in 1980, under $5 billion; in 2004, $26.9 billion. Staggering.
I believe something has to give. And I don't necessarily mean American taxpayers. They are already giving until they have almost given out.
Something must be done to stem the daily tsunami of new illegals, and to deport the ones already here.
We have borders without borders.
