Tribute To The American Warrior

Curtal Friar

Firstly, thank you for your service, both in the Armed Forces, and here at your blog.

I went to the Alamo yesterday. The line was looooooong. There were many out-of-towners there, and quite a few kids. One was about 13 years old, and he asked his dad why he had to see this place, since he knew all about it. In my usual meddling way, I asked him "Did you see the movie '300'?", and he replied, "Yeah...". I looked at him straight in the eye and said, "This was OUR Thermopylae."

He uncrossed his arms, and looked at our tiny mission with newfound respect. My work that morning was done!

NEW POSTING AVAILABLE!

CF & YLG

YLG, Your comments at the Alamo WERE GREAT! The first time I got there I was 42. I cried my eyes out for 15 or 20 minutes.

If God said, "Gray Ghost today is your day to buy the farm; but I will allow you to go anywhere or any place you wish". I want to be on the small wall to the side of the Alamo Chapel, next to Crockett, with my flintlock rifle, hand-made knife, and "hawk". It would be "shinin' times", if only for awhile.

(However, I would think about Thermopylae. The greek helmets and red cloaks are a "trip".)

CF, great article! I could only wish a mention of both sides during the War Between the States. I have often said: "All the brothers were valiant." The deeds of "The Iron Brigade", "The Orphan's Brigade", and others will live forever.

Nice Tribute

Don't forget our battle in Afghanistan. I have a friend who was severely injured during a parachute jump at our initial invasion there, and my husband served there recently.

It should be remembered as well as all the places that our men and women serve, whether in combat or not.

Hope you have time to drop by my blog for my tribute to the Vets.

Incidentally, we were fortunate to visit the Normandy beaches, cemeteries and museums in France. Like your son said, they are good places to visit so that we never forget.
