I agree with you! However...

how do you respond when someone says: "Oil is a fungible commodity that cannot be restricted to only one nation's use without introducing a false price on that commodity."? Meaning, that if you restricted use of US-extracted oil to just the USA, then that would introduce a price escalation because it wouldn't be forced to compete with the world supply.

I'm also a big fan of nuclear power due to its (the uranium) energy density, durability and consistency (base-load power). We need to follow France in that regard (80% of their electricity comes from nuclear).

Alternative Energy (a.k.a. Not Oil)

I would not limit oil produced in the U.S. to be used only in the U.S.. The point is to allow the market to dictate how the commodity is used. If we produce our own energy, it will likely mostly be used domestically, not because of government fiat, but by market conditions. That common sense strategy would keep the price down, as you say, via competition. Competition is good.
