Our Lousy, Lying, No Good Government

Quite frankly, this reminds me of the whole "Tax cuts for 95% of Americans" thing. 95% of Americans don't even pay taxes and he managed to get away with that. Obama, along with the media, is able to create an illusion...a sort of alterate reality. It's like the bizarro world with him. Eventually everyone will catch on.

I am a 22-year-old college student from Williamsburg, VA who recently just finished self-publishing a book called Our Lousy, Lying, No Good Government. I managed to create dozens of agreements with Barnes and Noble brick and mortar bookstores to get the book on shelves and barnesandnoble.com as well as amazon.com is already carrying the book so I am very excited about it. I am not contacting you looking to make a sale, however. I was hoping you could read a chapter of the book and let me know what you think/offer any suggestions. The reason for this is that I am planning on writing another book that goes into great depth about this specific topic and I would like to know what you think of it since I have been reading your posts for awhile now. I am asking a bunch of people on townhall.com who I have read a great deal of to do so since good conservative thought is expressed here daily. Please give it a quick read and let me know what you think. Thanks again!

The Danger of Individual Mandates

Mr. Andrews -

I thought you might find this video interesting and good background material for you upcoming essay on how Mandatory Insurance will ruin or Medical Care and Health Insurance systems.

From CNS News:

"Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who has served in the Senate for 33 years and is a longtime member of the Judiciary Committee, told CNSNews.com that he does not believe the Democrats’ health-care reform plan is constitutionally justifiable, noting that if the federal government can force Americans to buy health insurance “then there is literally nothing the federal government can’t force us to do.”

Clearly, the danger that Individual Mandates poses goes WELL beyond simply saddling us with socialized medicine. It opens the door to practically ANYTHING the Federal Government wants to dictate to us if its allowed by the courts to stand.

On a seperate note, any chance you can put me up for the nite? I am thinking of attending Rep Bachman's impromtu storming of Capital Hill in oppostion to Obamacare but my planning time and budget are quite limited and am as such seeking charity for my conservative activist efforts lol.

Keep up the great work!

Then there is the point

that the saved or created jobs do not even come close to the lost jobs. Most jobs created by the government are temp jobs just as long as the project last, then back to the unemplyment line.

Sailor Ray

You're right, not to mention that the raw numbers do not compare salaries either, so we could have lost 10 200K jobs and gained 10 minimum wages jobs (maybe even 10 temp minimum wage jobs) and they will claim we are breaking even. As I have argued when talking about Keynesianism, aggregates which lump together lots of disparate data tend to hide a lot of useful information. It is why "macroeconomic" theories tend to produce such bizarre conclusions and (in the real world) generate such miserable results.

I don't believe you have posted here before, so welcome tot he blog, and thanks for the comment.

Justin Haskins

I don't believe you have posted here before either, so welcome tot he blog and thanks for the comment (and sorry if you did post and I forgot, I like to think I can recall every reader, but I really can't after over 2 years and quite a few readers).

I don't mind the plug for your book as I have plugged my blog enough on other sites. If you did it on every article every day for a week, then I would mind. But a single plug is acceptable, especially as it sounds like a book I would not mind reading.

I have to see how much you are asking for the book before committing myself to a comment on it. (And I will not mention that it is customary to give reviewers a free copy, as I was once a 22 year old college student and know I could hardly have afforded that...) If it isn't outrageously priced, and I doubt it is, I may pick one up and let you know.

One question, if you are at Williamsburg, can I take it you go to William and Mary? A friend's brother is a graduate, and I went to their homecoming parade and festivities a few times back in the 1980's. Just curious, as it isn't that far from my home state (MD), and it is an area I know moderately well.

Well, off to answer the rest of my comments (ok, answer Rich's comment, that's all that's left right now). I will get back to you once I get a chance to see the book.

Rich

I have to create a post entitled "Rich's medical reform comments go here" or something similar, as I keep getting these off topic posts. They are great, don't get me wrong. I love the information. But it always throws me off to read a few on-topic comments then come across your medical reform comment. But please don't think I am asking you to stop, as the information is handy and has helped me gather some information for a few posts, so they are worthwhile, just sometimes they come out of the blue on a post that has little or nothing relating to medical reform.

Thanks for the Orrin Hatch quote. It is good to hear more prominent Republicans taking a firmer stand on these questions, and looking at issues other than the public option. So I definitely will use it for my post.

Concerning shelter, I am ill suited for it right now. Between a pretty full house and ongoing renovation, I am not the best choice right now. Wish I could help more.

I don't know what your budget is, but you might want to look into Baltimore. The MARC trains run from Baltimore to DC at a very reasonable price (only during commuter hours though) and Baltimore is much cheaper than DC. It would be one way to go to a DC rally a lot cheaper. (Though you may want to use MapQuest to make sure your hotel is close to a MARC stop, or light rail to get to the MARC... And if you consider it, ask me or Georgetwin about the hotel, as Baltimore has some really bad neighborhoods. We are both locals or former locals.)

Sorry I can't be more help.

I will try to stay on-point lol

Mr. Andrews -

Sorry about popping out of the blue from time to time with HC info (that is my present crusade as you know lol), but often I am very time constrained and its difficult to cull threw the various posts to find the last HC essay....

I have a problem I know - will enter a 12 step program after Obamacare to fix it lol. Sometime I get some really good info and just like to pass on ASAP as I am sure it would make a good fit for some of your future work. I will try to "curb my enthusiasm" lol

I was just kind of joking too about the lodging as I would never want to impose on you like that but I appreciate your advice about potential course of action to get to the rally.

I really do want to go and do my part to help stop this. As Represenative Bachman said, stopping this so-called HC reform is the "Super Bowl" for personal freedom and individual rights and I want to be able to help in anyway possible.

I have three young kids and I want them to grow up in a free and open society that respects our liberties and has a limited governement that serves the people not the politically connected elites.

In any case, here is a good follow up article on the Hatch interview. I have long had the same contention as the Senator does - a large segement of the left see this a purely a way to cement a permenant left-wing lock thru growing government and government dependency.

Rich

Don't worry, I know I haven't written a lot about healthcare recently, so you have to put your comments wherever they fit. Don't worry about it.

I will read your link shortly, after I have my conference call at work.

I am going to try to write my medical post today or tomorrow, as it really needs to be out there. Unfortunately, I keep getting called away by work, or coming up with short posts to write which distract me. But I will get to it very soon, as hopefully the topic will only be timely for a little while longer. (Or is that wishful thinking on my part?)

Upcoming Post

Mr. Andrews -

Looking forward to your upcoming post on medical issues. Hopefully, you are correct that perhaps they will disappear as a major issue but somehow I doubt it considering the magnitude of the expanision of government size and control involved....

Perhaps a good showing by conservatives today in key races will scare off some of the weaker memebers of the government interventionist cult....we will see shortly!

I am totally sympathetic to workload demands as I am part of the saps out there toiling to pay the taxload too. I think we fall into the pretty sterotypical conservative "activist" profile - working people with jobs that interfere with fulltime political blogging or travel to DC for preservation of Freedom rallies lol

Rich

I am going to try to write it tonight. I didn't get much done during work today, but I have some time now that my son is sleeping, so maybe I can get a little done.
