A Wish List for Salem

wish list for Salem
In no particular order...we would need a $50 million fund drive for the Y; the movie, bowling alley and skating rink would be nice...if anyone supported them. The bypass would be helpful...it might keep unsuspecting travelers from thinking they stopped in Mayberry or Sleepy Hollow if they bought the paper and now find TWO versions of the Town Crier. A shopping mall and several new businesses? See above re: movies. The high speed internet is already here. I travel a lot - Salem's system is better than most hotels that advertise high speed wireless. Salem's system is true wireless . Salem's system is just not free. Seems neither the city, county or Growth Partnership would help find any assistance and the only TRUE local provider built the system with his own money. Not cheap. It is his business and it's not free. The city, county and Growth Partnership would rather play personalities and let someone from Scott County bring in a system that is below standards for business and travelers. The story is the same regarding all your wishes. One comment, though, to put in the back of your mind until needed: you haven't seen anything yet until they have the capability for a local option income tax. Let's see...how many more roads need blacktop, how many parking garages can we build, etc., etc., etc.

Great Idea
Maybe you can start by being one of the people that works to get rid of the good old boy network around Salem. You know, the drug dealing criminals running the place including the crooked police force and corrupt hillbillies that run the county. It's no wonder that Washington County, Indiana has a bad name because of the drug culture of which even state officials once said was one of the worst areas in the USA. Behind Miami Florida and Mena Arkansas. Interesting don't you think.
Its no wonder this community has the issues it does with the lack of jobs, poverty, ignorance, and people in the city government and around the square that are against progress. Meanwhile the local government and job market is based on who you know and what you know. Salem has been swept aside by the pace of progress. Its been a moribound economy for the last 30 years with the loss of the factory culture and in need of small business entrepreneurship. Not the Economic Development Board wanting to build a couple of lousy hotels and that being all but burger flipping jobs and low wage industries.
They need to find another service provider that way we can hook into wireless all over the county. They can't even get Verizon or Blueriver to get any sort of access outside of the city. Guess what, you're disqualifying 70 percent of the county from the new economy. But the first thing is that you need to get rid of the good old boys like the local factory slave masters and the drug dealing henchmen running things. Its time for CHANGE, Salem
