No one does this for money?
This law has its roots in the Civil War. It is thus about 150 years old. To make a claim that no one becomes a whistle blower for money ignores the intent of Congress to encourage that very action.
In fact, if your argument that no one does this for money were true, then why would you care if Stone gets no money? Why claim that the public will be damaged if that happens?
I admit that I don't know enough about the issues to agree or disagree with your assessment that the "public will be the losers," but I intend to learn.
Oh, yes, about Kelo (eminent domain). That didn't benefit big business. It benefited government and had absolutely no impact, positive or negative on any "big business."
I see that this is your first post. It would be helpful to me, at least, if you cited the cases you write about.

Radlad, I don't understand what your cute comment has to do with this post, but just for the record Stone didn't rat out on a "repugnantcan" administration. He exposed an act of fraud perpetrated by Rockwell International against the US gopvernment. And again for information, the Bush administration, which the last time I looked was indeed repugnantcan" is backing Stone against Rockwell. i enjoyed your comment Please come back and slaughter the Englich language with me any old time, Ya gear. Not Roadkill, Money is not the motivator in these cases because by the time the whistle blower has gotten any reward money his life has been miserably torn asunder. Most probably have to change careers or move to a foreign country. (lol) Most are also people with a great deal of education and training in their fields to be in a position to know a company is defrauding the government. This is a lot to give up and takes a special kind of very honorable person to do so. In this case Rockwell has fought this all the way to the Supreme Court and it has taken 18 years. A body could get mighty hungry in 18 years of being jobless and living on the street.
The public will be the losers because with nothing at all but being black balled in your industry and probably totally changing your life is all the reward you can get then even fewer will be willing to come forward. At least with the reward the whistle blower may be able to enjoy a better old age, because they are usually elderly and poor when they get any monies. This from a few cases I have read about. What other reason would Rockwell have had to fight Stone getting a share of what they had already repaid the government? Rockwell did it for the purpose of stopping the practice and they did it with the full backing of other big corporations.
In the "Kelo" case big business or maybe just medium sized business certainly did profit. They got prime land to develop and sell for big bucks and they got that land for a song. The city got a big boost in property taxes from these b or m businesses first and then a bigger boost from the people who bought the developed property. The only ones who lost where the home owners whose middleclass homes sat on this prime property over looking the bay.
Sorry about not giving a source. I usually do but for some reason just got going on this and forgot. It was just on my Road Runner news page under Supreme Court which I try to keep and eye on. Will do better from here on out. BB
