...after profundity. A flowing stream of wisdom, Jeffrey. I don't know about Steele but your endorsement of him has caused me to take a 2nd look.
I simply do not trust any of the 6. they're all probably great people but I find that they all lack this: "Our Leader should have a touch of “The Common Man” about them with NO TRACES of elitism, self-centeredness, conceit or self-admiration. "
Ha! Use your own words against you. But I hope you are right about Steele. I need to see more.
And the Cowboys of the '90s. Like the song says, glory days. DD

Where are John Wayne and
Ronald Reagan and Harry Truman when we need them. John Wayne would whup Hollyweird in shape, Reagan would jerk a knot in the country's tail and Harry could blow Iran's potential bomb making facilities off the map. That would be a good start towards putting liberals in their place.
I like Michael Steel and Ken Blackwell. I've signed umpteen petitions for Steel and I hope he gets it but will be happy too if Blackwell gets it. They're both common sense guys and both have good history and backbone. Maybe we'll get lucky. It's time!!
Good work Jeff. (is Jeff OK or do you prefer Jeffrey)?

Fantasic read
This is a well written post.
I agree with the qualities you described in a leader.
Wisdom, Strength, Patience, Perseverance,
are a must.
We will know in a few weeks who heads up the RNC.
I have been looking at Blackwell, because I see the conservative values that are needed.
I pray that whoever is best for the seat will be chosen.

Conservative Counterattack
Excellent essay, Jeffrey. The GOP is floundering and I am almost embarrassed to watch them keel over for hope and change but they have done it to themselves .... You make an excellent point that the RNC was not "excited", could not coallesce (sp) around a candidate. I liked Duncan Hunter very much but he could not get the attention/funding. Fred Thompson waited way too long. I supported McCain only because of Sarah Palin. I think McCain should manup and cross the aisle permanently. Perhaps there will be a strong, conservative candidate to challenge him for his seat in Az in 2010. Or maybe he will just retire.
I like Michael Steele very much and have signed petitions for him. I will never forget what Upchuck Schumer and his crew did with Steele`s personal and credit card information. And those Oreo cookies! Despicable. Time is not on our side. PEBO will never stop campaigning! And he has a warchest that is bottomless.

Steele comes from VERY humble beginnings. His manner is professorial without being Elitist of Pretentious. The 90’s Cowboys are a GREAT allegory for the 2000’s GOP. The power went to their heads and SHORTLY thereafter was GONE!

Good to see you back at it,slacker!! mwahahahaha
Good post, and no question the clowns at the RNC need to take a LONG HARD look in the mirror to see the reason for the horrific results this year. I could care less about the Cowboys, when one is from the Detroit area, pro football is non-existant.hahahahaha. Steele would be an excellent choice to head up the RNC,but I don't believe the fools have gotten it yet. It's like they just want to blame Limbaugh,Palin, and any one else who displayed any predisposition to true conservatism for the loss.

Mitt, Fred and Duncan Hunter were EXCELLENT Candidates, but not enough of us coalesced behind one of them to give them a majority.
While I agree with that statement and Fred was the most popular of the three (IMHO) the RNC sent him to the hinterlands to rot. We got McLame foisted on us by RINO's who KNEW he could not win.
Palin/Jindal 2012 and the H*LL with the RNC.

Great post, JAF!! I only disagree
with your "truism", "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
United Buggy Whip wasn't broken, but they shoulda fixed it. The Penn Central Railroad wasn't broke, but they shoulda fixed it. John Thomas' high jumping wasn't broke, but he shoulda fixed it. If they'd fixed what wasn't broken they'd have been, respectively, United Automobile, Penn-Central Airlines, and used the "Thomas flop" rather than watching Fosberry win Olympic gold.

Conservatives need a strong leader who won't be afraid of saying things that others will purposely misinterpret. Have to face facts. The MSM have their lord and no one will get a fair shake. Conservatives need someone that will bypass the MSM and take the message to the American people. They must be intelligent as well as eloquent. That is why that I am announcing my candidacy for President of the United States right here at Townhall.com. More to come... moohahaha

What a great read. Outstanding. Food for thought and everything!
Can't really add much to the comments in the thread. From my perspective, there is not time for 'diplomacy' any longer if we are to salvage some semblance of our Constitutional Republic.
We don't need a diplomat, we need a ram-rod as you pointed out.
Thanx again for this post.

Great read...Haven't heard from ya in awhile...hope all is well. I know that this doesn't have anything to do with your blog which I totally agree with but just wanted to let you know that i'm now offically now on the Doofusses Sh#t list. Last night on Hawkins thread he was talking about his usual Bush the torturer BS when I said to to him in effect "If any combantant that is released from Gitmo and ends up in Iraq or Afghanistan and just happens to kill any G.I.s, the blood will be on your hands". Well needless to say he ended up calling me a dirtbag which to me was a badge of honor coming from him.
I'm not trying to gloat or anything but I'm glad that I got under his skin. I cannot believe that this former AF officer(?) would stoop so low as to want him extradited to the Hague for war crimes. One thing I do know there is no love lost for any veteran who comes on TH and has to deal with that Moron...Anyway thats it.
Good see ya again.

(not the sunset) Great points.
But in all honesty right now I can't think of anyone I'd suggest as a real posibility. Could be the next four years will prove the person and/or one will surface who had some effect on what we are about to experience.
One thing we must do is look at he/she in light of the past and the future. I mean nnot just one who has accomplished something...a Newt type comes to mind. But someone who is capable and not compromised from the gitgo. I can think of a lot of possibilities but not very realistically.
The next few years might be the test and make or break period to flush them out. Though I have trouble having any faith in the RNC, or in their follow through. It may be he/she will need to speak over and past the RNC elite, to conservatives, to make it happen -- unmuzzled. (reminiscent of Reagan, again)

Hi GT
Thought I'd come over and add a line or two. I was amused by your mother-in-law story. Seems like there's someone like that in every family. Anyway, we got Steele at RNC Chair, now. I'm happy about it, too. I was supporting Ken Blackwell, but I think those two were the best of the field. BTW, did you see Blackwell's article in TH today, about why he bowed to Steele? Good article and very complimentary of Steele. Made me feel better. I think we've got a chance to bring conservatism back to the GOP.
