I must say that I agree with much of what you have stated in this post. I also disagree with some of your personal definition of a conservative. While a true, historic conservative is for a return of most power to the states, and is for un-infringed right to bear arms, they most certainly are for invading a nation if that nation presents an imminent and varifiable threat to our security. It has been the policy of America to defend our way of life and liberty wherever that threat resides, such as the Barbary Coast or occupied Europe.

Isolationism enjoyed a short life in our history due to the lack of any positive outcome from WWI.

Also, you claim that Lincoln started the civil war without the consent of the people. Do you honestly believe the people of the non-secedeing states would have been content had he not gone to war? The preservation of the union was the number one reason for the war, the refusal of the confederate states to abide by the law of the land was the reason for their secession.

Every person has the freedom to define themselves as they see proper, but to attempt to redefine conservativism along your own beliefs is to rewrite American history and what conservatives have always believed in.
