Hey Sheila...

...a park you helped design? Did you work for the city? How did this come about?

Also, I figured out how to link tonight by trial and error.

Step 1) On the "Create New Post" page, just under "Make this a featured post" there are a number of icons beginning with "ABC" running left to right. The very last one, above the word "size", is the "Hyperlink Manager." Click on it.

Step 2) Copy from the "Address" bar the site you want to link to and paste it in the box next to "URL:"

Step 3) Type the words you would like to have on your post linked to that site next to the box "Link Text:"

Step 4) Click "OK" It should appear on your post.

Hey Jimmy!

When we moved into this developement, there was an area designated for a park that was nothing but a big patch of dirt...when the county was ready to get it developed, I went to all the meetings, representing our association board. No one wanted a sports park, because several houses in the neighborhood backed up to the park, so I came up with the design...a walking park, with a couple of creekbeds, with bridges over them. It turned out great. After months of meetings and planning, it was approved...my neighbor calls it the Miss Sheila Park! She takes her grandkids there...

BTW, thanks for the instructions on the links, I'll give it a try...can't promise anything...:)

Oops,

I'm late to the game. I just tagged you, and you've already written your post and tagged six others.

I think we're running out of names! I'm trying to change the rules and have each one tag only one other.

Sandra

Yeah, that's the prob...we're tagging a lot of the same people, it can't be avoided.

I'll check yours out!

HeyJimmy...

thanks for the help with the links...I did it!

Sheila

You can view my oddness now.

I'm also a very big fan of Job 19:25-27: three very good verses from an excellent book.

Wow

Designed a park. Now that's pretty serious community work!
I came over to see if you were playing. This is kind of fun.
My favorite place for dinner is at sunset also. I was on a business trip some years back. I had to go to San Fran for about 10 days. I had a per diem on food, so on the weekend I drove down to Santa something, it's a college town, and had dinner on the wharf in this fabulous restaurant. I saved my whole per diem and spent it on that dinner on the ocean at sunset. I was in heaven!

Well, now back to the present, not so heavenly.

mgraves

Thanks for the comments...I'm going to your place!

Cynewulf

"Sing Latin love songs"?...actually Sandra and I have been known to break out in harmony with the ol' guitar on occasion...:)

Funny...I've missed your humor, Cyne...

Peppermint

The park...was worth the effort...

Santa Barbara...definitely a great place for a sunset dinner on the beach! Sounds like you had a pleasant trip to the Left Coast!

One of our favorite things is driving up that way for a scenic getaway...

I'm just hoping Ahhnold doesn't do the State in, with his new socialist approach to governing...

Brazil huh

That explains it.

Just Kidding.

Prysson

Yup, I definitely had a different childhood than you gringos...just kidding.:) Checking your site.

Sheila, Gamecock still lurks-tagged

Sheila, I have been swamped with legal work, buying anew house, problems with old house, car broke down, one secretary quit, the other is sick all the time, I was sick in December, feeling great now, writing for more websites in addition to The Charlotte Observer...whew...and was tagged by Prysson and Maggie

Gamecock's feathers plucked, i.e. Townhall "Tagged"
Friday, February 09, 2007 11:00 PM

Townhall bloggers are enduring a virus. Naturally, given all Hewitt's work, TH viruses are benign, but, here are apparently the rules I received from Maggie and Prysson:

"People who get tagged need to write a blog stating 6 unusual or weird things about themselves as well as state this rule clearly. In the end of the post, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names and links. Don't forget to leave a comment that says you are tagged in their comments and tell them to read your blog."

1 - I celebrated my birthday on May 30, until my 12th, when I had to get a birth certificate to play football. The Birth Certificate, filled out by an anal retentive nurse, documented by birthday as 11:59 PM, May 29. Since then, I have celebrated my Birthday on the same day as JFK and Bob Hope. Not bad.

2 - I quit High School, worked in a cotton mill for 18 months, took the GED, entered college with my High School class and went on to make summa c*m laude, phi beta kappa BA in economics, JD in law school and a Phd in the school of hard knocks.

3 - I was a geek that could play sports and fight, and a bully in grammar school. At first I bullied the geeks, but very soon switched to defending the geeks against redneck bullies.

4 - I applied to and was accepted by Columbia University law school, just to prove that I could, and then attended a law school in Columbia, SC that actually imparted useful knowledge.

5 - I was contradiction in terms from my teen years thru 2000, i.e. I was a Democrat Hawk. Now I am a Republican.

6 - I love The Holy Bible, C.S. Lewis, Elvis, The Beatles, Sam Cooke, old black and white movies, Columbo, Andy Griffith, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Dallas, Spiderman, Network, Gone with the Wind, Robert Bork's Slouching Towards Gomorrah, Reagan. Rush, Prager, Medved, Hewitt, Family Guy, 24, American Dad, Redstate, Dubya, the USC Gamecocks and the Clemson Tigers, the Ramblin Wreck from Georgia Tech, Shaq, the Colts since Johnny U, Namath, Randall Cunningham, Earl Campbell, OJ before he was a murderer, Johnny Carson, The Charlotte Observer, Dominique Wilkins, The Lakers, Elton Brand and the Clippers, and

Growing up in Brazil!

Hey, maybe Sheila and I could sell the rights! It would be an interestiong story. "The blonde gringowises take Rio."

I came to close to marrying a Brazilian

to make her a citizen (and I liked her a lot!). Her husband beat her and divorced her before the 2 year deadline. I ened up helping her lgally gain citizenship. I'm a lawyer.

Gamecock:

Oops, better not let the "Wall" people know about that! Well, I married a Brazilian also and helped him get his papers. I left him because of the "Monster in law."

One of the best ways to stay healthy

Both mentally and physically is to walk while listening to Rush. I have for 14 years, 8 of which as a democrat, before the epiphany in 2000.

Nice scripture as well

Songs to sing

RE Latin love songs...Are those like Gregorian chants, except with feeling?

Scatbug,

Ok, everyone. "Pange Lingua Gloriosi." Sing it with feeling!

Sisters

Two of my favorite bloggers sisters, great.

Some of the things I do know about Brazil, is the ethanol thing, Pele [great soccer player], that Portuguese is the main language, and it's a very big country.

BTW I had to look up Job. 19: 25-27, very nice.

I also listen to Rush whenever I get the chance. If you get Mark Levin there he also is great.

Just posted my tags it's an interesting exercise.

Gamecock

Gosh, thanks for stopping by...you have really had it rough!

Glad you're better!

Sounds like you are an all-American success story, and I'm so glad you came over to the right side!:)

Sandra

Ha! I'm cracking up!...:) Very funny!

Gamecock

How interesting that you would have that experience meeting a Brazilian, and helping her become a citizen, and almost marrying her! Quite a story! Have you kept in touch?

Sandra

I'm dying laughing! You are on a roll!

Gamecock

Does that mean we are both walking with Rush at the same time in different places?...:)Can't believe you listened to him for 8 years as a Dem!
Unreal!

Scatbug!

Holy Tamole! (that's not the title of a Gregorian chant)...:)You're baaaaaack!

TH hasn't been the same without you!

I see the Scatbug humor is intact!...Very funny...Thanks for checking into the tag game...I'm going to your site.

Jevica

You're funny! Sister bloggers...yes, it could be a nightmare...:)

Brazil...you're right, and it was a great place to grow up, and of course fun to speak the language like a native...it always was a surprise to those who didn't know us, to hear us speaking without an accent.

The scripture in Job is a real comfort to me...glad you checked it out.

Rush gives me the motivation to get out and walk...guess I'm not alone in that!

I'm going over to your site. Glad you're playing!

BTW, Sandra

That was a good one..."blonde gringowises take Rio"...funny...:0)

Oh, and remember

being stranded on Sugar Loaf Mountain?

Yes.

You should tell that story.

Twas a warm night in Rio

and out on the town,
were a bunch of teenagers,
just messing around,
when low and behold,
they came to realize,
they had hung out too long
and thus missed their ride!

It now was too late,
and to their surprise,
on top of old Sugar Loaf
your stuck after nine!
So the guys got quite bold,
to try and locate
someone to assist them
to leave there posthaste!

T'make a long story short,
a caretaker they found
who called to the beach
to see who might be around,
and to their great fortune
someone had remained,
who could run the machines
and get them down again!

The cable cars came,
all the way up the hill,
and carried them down
though there was quite a chill!
They all felt relief
to know they were spared
the embarrassement of being
by Sugar Loaf ensnared!...:)

This is a true story
about Sandra and me,
in our exploits in Rio...
we were definitely,
lucky to get down the mountain before
the temperatures dropped
and we froze to the core!

What do you think, Sis, does that pretty much tell the story?...:)

You two are amazing

and funny to.

Thanks, Jevica

You're very kind...

Well, I guess we can have fun here on Townhall!:) This tag game has been neat! I feel like I know people better...

I agree,

dinner at sunset on the coast would be wonderful.

I'm a late comer, Sheila, but, it is nice to meet you. Sounds like you and sis have had a lot of fun together.

great scripture quote, too!

Dawn

Thanks, Dawncy

Nice to meet you too, and welcome to TH, btw! This was a good idea I think, to get us to know more people here on the blogs!

Thanks for checking, I'm going to your blog!

added you

I have added you in my who tagged me part of the Tag post

Cool!

Thanks...I like thinking I may have participated in getting you to play!...:)

Thanks Sheila, and yes,

I have kept in touch with Ana in Atlanta. I walk more often around lunchtime, and the fact that I endured Rush is a testament to my sense of humor and that maybe I wasn't quite the liberal I thought I was. I hated the Dem congress since the 80s and called myself a Clinton Dem thinking he was more conservative for years. I was busy building a law practice, raising kids and being loyal to a party I inwardly loathed really during the 90s. I finally realized one day that Clinton never didn't lie when he opened his mouth.

Gamecock

an amazing story...wonder why more in your old party don't see Clinton for the liar he is...

Never heard the story

told so well! You'll have to save it for Dad to read. The poetry added to intrigue, well done.

My students always enjoy this story. I tell it when they ask about the Sugar Loaf.

Thanks, Sandra

Sure brings back memories...it was fun writing it in poem format...wonder how many teenagers have gotten stuck up there the same way we did, but never got down before the cold night set in...burrrr...

Many see Clinton for the liar

he is but won't admit it, for to do so would require them to admit they misjudged him and invested much of what they care about in him. This explains the problem many liberals have in letting go of their failed world view. It took me many years to do it, and I was all the time a man of faith in God. It is dubly tough for a person that doesn't have a strong faith in God to essentially trash such a large portion of their life.

Gamecock

Yes, I can understand what you say...admitting to be wrong about a cause you've invested your life in, is hard.

Your story is quite compelling...I salute you for having the inner strength to make the difficult decision.

Thanks for that response.:)

Tanabear

Since you don't have a site I'll talk to you from mine.

The Good news in Iraq...Saddam isn't killing and torturing his own people. He's not supporting terrorism around the world...he's not scamming the world with the oil for food program which basically kept him in palaces, and supported his murderous sons activities of torture and intimidation...Saddam is no longer developing chemical weapon programs.

The Iraq people risked their lives to vote for a government...the beginning of a democracy...a new government is working on creating a democratic friendlier nation to the west...new Iraqi army and police trainees are learning, and taking over more responsibility for their country...more people are in freedom in Iraqi cities outside of Bahgdad where the TV cameras aren't giving thugs and murderers TV time.

What would you have said after WWII, and our occupation of Germany, and our occupation of Japan? Those countries became better places for their citizens to live after our military's presence, and made the world a safer place. It wasn't easy, and it didn't happen overnight! What would you propose in Iraq? The goal there right now is VICTORY.

I don't believe in throwing in the towel, and handing our country over to "peacenicks" because I don't have everything in Washington exactly the way I want. It takes YEARS to build a true strong majority, and it can't be done by retreating and giving the oposition more time to gain more power!

I believe you are using the Left's lingo when you use the term Neo Con. Name calling never accomplished a thing, and only serves as in the days of the Nazis to label people, and create hate. I don't subscribe to name calling.

So, Tanabear, what is your plan? Sitting out the next election too? What will that accomplish? More Democrat socialist/internationalists who want America to be equal to the rest of the world "powers" in control? Now there's a plan.

Yes

I'm glad someone else took tanabear to task.

He was at my blog a while ago with the same type of B.S., and there is no way to get at him. No blog no site nothing.

Hey jevica,

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out later when I have a little more time.

So you've encountered the same stuff...I just don't get that kind of thinking. We're not helping anyone but the Left with that kind of mentality...

See ya at your place.

well said, Sheila

I'm not in the conversation you describe with tanabear, but, well said! Don't even see how this gets elevated to a point of contention amongst all of us.

twenty minute wars are for toddlers, you have to go a little further to come to real solutions. It takes continued grappling to help a youngster stand on his/her own two feet. What do people think it takes to get an entire nation to stand alone? We're no longer separated by oceans and we have a responsibilty to our own shores, even our shores as they meet the shore of mid east tensions and beyond.

Dawn

sorry, I meant to make it short.

Dawncy

Thanks for the comment...you nailed it! This isn't something that is easy and will happen overnight, there are great things happening in Iraq that aren't reported by the MSM, all we see is their biased reporting, with their goal to defeat Bush. When our own side piles on and helps the enemy and their cause it sets us back, and furthers the enemy's cause.

Sheila, bravo response to t-bear

Our mission in Iraq is one our finest hours and it is a shame its not now recognized as such. History will be more kind.

You should write a post

with your answer to Tanabear. It was great.

Gamecock

Thanks Gamecock...I'm glad to hear you and others feel the same way. I am tired of those on our side sounding like the "yellow party". The hate Bush crowd on our side are starting to grate on me. I'm simply not going to contribute to that kind of defeatist talk.

Sandra

Thanks for the idea...I may just do that. I just can't figure out why people on our side are helping the lib cause.

You've got that right!

There are many on our side that are getting the libs elected!

They can't see past their hatred of Bush. As I've said before, it's going to be a loooong 2 years!

BTW, Sandra

Did you see tanabear's ludicrous rant?
