It's Spring!

Yep!

Lots of great new photo ops!

Though I like the winter ones, too.

ah, springtime

Noticing the daffodils coming up all over the place, as well as tulips.

Time for the resumption of all-out war on English Ivy and Oriental Blackberry! As usual, they will win, though their war dead will be piled in heaps.....

Perhaps the most profound change: The incessant Oregon rain changes from freezing to just above freezing! YIPEE!!!!

A nice respite...

...from current events.

Spring has sprung.

Hey Brian

Great photo ops for sure! With your talents for photography, they're everywhere!

Dave!

Sorry about that freezing weather there in Oregon...LOL

Jimmy

Yes...I'm taking a spring break!LOL

Lovely new post, Sheila!

Whilst I disagree that it's supposedly proven that there's a supposed God, I do appreciate positive posts!

Stan...:)

Thank you for the kind words.

It was a glorious sight to see such an incredible change on the hillsides stretching for miles down the coast.

I had originally been quite shocked to see the damage done by the fires...

Out of the

blackened landscape budding flowers bloomed. Maybe out of the blackened political landscape a Budding Genius will emerge, but most likely it will be a Blooming Idiot. Sweet post Sheila!

Btw, Stan...

Notice I did what you asked...:) A new post!LOL

Appolyon

"Budding Genius"...wouldn't that be nice...LOL

And btw, thanks for the kind words!

Seems once in a while a post on the good news is a good thing!

Re: Btw, Stan...

Oh I noticed. I'm a leader. :-) Just like Obama will be, IMHO.

Good thoughts

We are currently experiencing the lion part of March but I've had to cut the grass twice now so I guess Spring is officially here.

Good post Sheila

Nice change of pace from our usual immersion in politics. Kind of like a nice sherbit to clense the palate between courses.

Stan...:)

A leader...LOL

As to Ob, he may be a leader to some...but all I see from him is to offer bigger govnt, which only takes away freedom...

Using other people's money through taxation, to promote more gvt programs that don't work, is not my idea of leadership.

Leaders inspire others to lead and act independent of govt.

Govt programs inspire dependence and lack of personal innitiative, due to a "nanny state" mentality.

And Stan

I believe our rights are God given, as in "we are endowed by our Creator"...

Our nation has thrived because we the people are given our rights by God, not govt. When we start depending on the gvt to give us our rights, then we endanger our freedoms, because the govnt has to "take".

You have said you doubt the existence of God, and I can appreciate a skeptic...but I' am curious how you have come to your conclusions?...:)

Sarge

Sorry to hear you aren't enjoying Spring yet! I have to admitt to being spoiled living in this mild climate! LOL

Scottie LOL

Thank you very kindly!

Yes, it is rather nice to focus on something larger than politics...

Govnts will come and go, but God's promisses will last forever.

Trusting in man can have it's falacies, because none of us is perfect...:)

The beauty of his creation always brings me back to the reality that we have no control over things...but He does...just as the hillsides were blackened by the fires, the beauty is restored by God's gracious hand...

Sheila

You can think what you want, that's cool and what freedom is all about.

But IMHO, you first need to know that a (supposed) God even exists before you should worry about that. It's called "faith" for a reason (and that reason is that cannot know if a (supposed) God exists or not.)

Sheila

We had our real first day of spring yesterday. The temp actually went up to almost 70 degrees. The birds were singing their little hearts out. The flight of red wing black birds over a pond on the farm was gorgeous as the sun hit the red part of their wings and lit them up.

We walked the dogs and enjoyed the fresh air and the warm sun. We hadn't seen the sun in awhile and it was most welcome.

The maple trees are starting to blossom out. I cannot wait for the wildflowers to start blooming.

I've got a new post up at my place. Come on over when you get a chance. It's about the Black Liberation Theology and another reason NOT to vote for Obama.

Sheila

I have a new post up. It is definitely spring today.

Stan...:)

What I have found, is that "faith" isn't just faith in God.

Everything we do involves faith...we get on a plane, and we have faith it will fly and get us to your destination...we have faith we will live another day...

To me, the evidence points to the truth of the existence of God. It involves faith, but not a blind faith... it's believing in the evidence...

If God is love and light and truth, I can't imagine life without those things...LOL

Pep LOL

Now that's a beautiful picture! The glories of Spring!

Sounds like I need to head over to your place! And your blog too...:)

Sheila

Right. Faith isn't really a religous thing. I certainly agree that everytime I drive I have faith that a Police Chase (LOL!) isn't gonna crash into me and kill me.

But I think where you're mistaken is that you think that just because we exist, that it's evidence of some (supposed) God. It's a logical fallacy (you're saying because of A, B is true. An apples to oranges comparison, so-to-say.)

Stan...:)

LOL...police chase...:)that wouldn't be a good way to go!

As to my belief in the existence of God...I believe what the Scripture says, and the evidence in history, archaeology and science has proven to me that it is true.

As to "which" God, there is only one person in History who has claimed to be God...and proved it, through fulfilled prophecy about his life, through miracles he performed, and through conquering death itself.

That person being Jesus Christ. I believe he is who he said he is..."the Way the Truth and the Life". He said " I and the Father are one" and "if you've seen me you've seen the Father".

The book of John is a great book to read on the subject. I've been reading it again, and it's pretty amazing!

Coronado

I was attending a school at NAS North Island for 2.5 months in the fall of 2003. During that time, I would take a nice stroll 4 or 5 times per week, from my barracks, out the front gate (that was 3/4 miles), and through some of the neighborhoods, then downtown Coronado, and on a ways past Hotel Del Coronado. Beautiful area. I just wish the water temp was warmer.

I attended boot camp in San Diego back in 1990. That boot camp has been torn down since then. When I graduated, we got the weekend off, and my parents came down. They took me to a nice Sunday brunch at Hotel Del. What a place!

Stan and Obama

He shows great leadership qualities. He can avoid hundreds of potentially tough votes by saying "Present!" You can't do that and be a leader!

Fire damage near San Diego

I was there for the 2003 fires. I drove out a few weeks later through the blackened hills. That was a depressing sight.

Spring?

Well, we have had a few days in the 60s, but they are still being followed by mornings in the 20s with highs in the 40s. We'll find Spring just in time for summer...

Hey Crawfish!

Wow! That's cool that you were there! It is a uniquely beautiful place!

Crawfish

I love walking around on Coronado! We took my husband's Mom to the brunch there, once when she was visiting! Unreal!

They've really done a lot of beautiful renovations at the Del property...and continue to do more.

The beauty of the beach, and the surrounding area is quite inspiring...:)You're right about the cold water though.LOL

Yeah, Crawfish

It was such a sad sight when the hills were blackened for miles...

But the color came out and rejuvination is taking place!

Sheila

Have you seen wil around lately? I've tried to go to his blog and every time I go, I get the msg server cannot be found.

wil

was on one of the blogs commenting today.

wil's blog

http://keepersblog.blogtownhall.com/

I just checked and it is up and running.

Sheila, the link Gunny has for One Eighty didn't work.

The new post on VA Daddy's blog, which you've already commented on, gave me an inspiration for another posting tonight. How religion has been hijacked for ill use.

2003 fires

I was in the barracks, and another student would come to my room every Sunday for NASCAR and NFL. I knew when to expect him, so I opened the door to see if he was coming and found everything gray. The sun was just a dim red spot in the heavy overcast and something was falling from the sky. Was that someone's campfire on the beach I was smelling? Wait...THAT'S ASH FALLING! He got to my room, and we went to fetch beer and food for the day. Well, it was about 9:30AM, and there was almost 1/2 inch of ash on my SUV. When we got back, the tv was all-fire all the time, with an occaisional score update from the games. By the 4th quarter of the early games, they put the game in the corner of the screen and kept fire coverage going in the main part. Drove us nuts, but we knew it was important.

The next day, Monday, more homes were actually in danger, but the fire coverage was now in the corner of the screen while the soaps had the main part. The stations knew better than to pizzoff the bluehairs by pre-empting their soaps!

Hey Pep

I I haven't seen wil but Crawfish has... guess he's still up and running...Crawfish left his link above.

Hey Crawfish!

Don't know what's up with the "one eighty" link at Gunny's...will check it out!

Btw, thanks for the link on wil...:)

Crawfish

That's quite a story on the 03 fires...

This last fire, here where I live in the OC, the air was so bad I didn't go anywhere for several days! My pool was pitch black! And I wasn't in the immediate fire area...it took days to clean everything up...

It is amazing after all that ugglyness, now there is such beauty on the hillsides!

Btw, I'm coming over to your place!

Not to be a bummer

but spring in N.H. is downright ugly. Gray and muddy. Used to depress the hell out me. That is why I am so glad I live in Fl. Beautiful!

Stan the man...

I'm sure you can inform me. LOL

Masch!

Wow,it would be tough not to have Spring sunshine!

Yeah Florida is beautiful, for sure! A tropical paradise! LOL

beautiful post

It is always amazing to see the beauty that comes after chaos. To me also, that is confirmation of a loving God....
I see some of you were pondering my absence, I do not know what happened to some of the links, I have trouble getting between blogs too. I have been pretty busy with actual life these last few weeks, going to Oregon with the family for spring break, preparing at school for the annual Marine Biology trip our sophomores take, and getting ready to move out once our house forcloses or short sells (whichever it turns out to be)....
To Stan, try reading "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel...He is an investigative journalist with a law background who analyzes the evidence for and against the existence, the diety, and the salvation message of Christ. It was recommended to me by my mom, and I have found it fascinating. Itcomes down to faith as you state, but I am too analytical to accept blind faith, (which is something of a weakness) I came to my Christianity through looking at things in detail.

wil

Yes,I found you again! Thanks for you comments here...

Hope your next home bying venture goes better...it must be hard to lose a home.

Sounds like you have been quite busy with school, family, "real life"...as you put it.LOL What's more important after all?...:)

Lee Strobel's book is very good...I agree...he was an atheist, he set out to prove Jesus wasn't who he claimed, and wound up believeing the evidence!

And wil

Your bio at your place was quite interesting...good decision!

Sheila

To get off topic I found this item in a book I was reading, and since you and your sister grew up in Brazil I wondered if you could tell me if it was true or not.

"Brazilian women can be romantically aggressive. It's not uncommon for a woman to send a note to a man in a restaurant asking for his phone number . . . even if he's with his wife or girlfriend."

True or not.

Jev...

All I know is the guys are that way!!!

Sheila

Sure I could, but the point is that Senator McCain't been on the campaign trail as well as Senator Obama, and of course has missed some Senate votes. The person I was responding to was trying to create an unlevel playing surface.

Wil

> To Stan, try reading "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel ...

What, you want me to read propaganda?

Stan

I don't think wil sees the book by an ex-atheist as "propaganda" or he wouldn't have recommended it...

For myself "propaganda" is false, biased info...since Strobel was an atheist, his research should hold some credibility...:)

Basically

Strobel writes as a former skeptic and athiest with doubts who became a Christian when he looked into it, as I did. If you just want to say little pithy clever things and not examine the question of the legitimacy or lack of it of Christ and Christianity, that is certainly your right, but if you would like to read something challenging to your position, this book may be worth a read.

Propaganda

There's 2 kinds (look it up in a decent dictionary.) There's lying type propaganda, and there's truthful-type propaganda.

What if, the auther of the book is lying about previously beeing an athiest? I mean, it seems on the face of it, he couldn't have been an athiest because he was open-minded enough to look into his (supposed) opposing POV.

wil

It's interesting how you received the book, being in the field of science...

There are so many scientists who never get a mention from the press who were evolutionists, and due to their research in the field found evolution non-credible, and as a result became creationists and believers in Christ.

Strobel was a known atheist. His wife became a believer before he did, and that is what caused his interest in writing a book to debunk Jesus' claims...he found the evidence overwhelming.

Stan...:)

Truthfully, a person has to have an interest in finding out for themselves...it's pretty easy do find out about Strobel's history...:)

If you don't have the desire to do the research for yourself, then you won't believe anyone's "word" on the subject, anyway, right? LOL

I'm always amused when a "skeptic" has never read a line in the Scriptures about Jesus' claims,or the eyewitness accounts in the gospels, and the fullfilled prophesies about him (written years before he appeared on earth)...but I'm sure that doesn't describe you!...:)

What If

God and Superman got into a fight? (Saturday Night, Weekend Update (line undoubtably had future Senator Al Franken's hand in it's writing))

What if, Sheila my friend, he was lying, and the MSM lied along with him in creating his (supposed real) history?

Sheila...:-)

> What if he wasn't?...

Then, my friend, it (literally (if you're what you appear to be)) becomes a "He said/She said" situation. :-)

Stan...

"He said she said"...you said I said...some believed some didn't...Strobel believed after he researched...

As for me, I believe what the Scritptures say...history, the evidence says Christ came to provide a way back to God...forginess of sins, the promise of eternal life. He said "I am the way the truth and the life", and proved it. I choose to believe the eyewitnesses who were skeptics and believed...not skeptics who weren't there and didn't...

This life here on earth will come to an end. Everyone I know has a 100% mortality rate...I choose to believe in the one who gives life, not the word of mortal man!...:)

Everyone is free to check out the evidence and decide for themselves! LOL

You say tomato

Quayle attempts to spell it. ;-)

Sheila -
> I choose to believe the eyewitnesses ...

You say "eyewitnesses", I say "liars".

It seems to me we're still in a he said/she said situation. :-) Care to loop again in circular argumentation? :-)

It all comes back to one little word...

"faith"...we all have faith in something...:)

We have faith there is no God or there is...

I look at history, science, nature and I see the hand of God...others see evolution and the survival of the fittest...

I see a perfect creation and the fall of man, resulting in the separation from God. The promised Messiah who came to show fallen man the way back to God, by becoming the sacrifice for fallen mankind, fulfilling prophecy written years before.

Others see the big bang...man evolving from slime, apes...no eternity after death.

It all comes back to faith. LOL

Re: Faith

I don't have faith that either is true (the existence or non-existence of a supposed God.)

I really couldn't care less, other than simple curiosity.

Stan

Curiosity is good. LOL

What got you curious?

Just curious...:)

But, one has to admitt if one is honest

that "not caring less" puts one in the category of "trusting", "believing", or in essence "having faith" that the idea of God is silly or inconsequential... LOL

Sheila

My friend, I was born curious.

But it was my brother that was named "George". ;-)
