We have the best medical care in the country because being a doctor is a lucrative business. Like it or not, money drives us. But the best minds would stop becoming doctors, and pursue some different manner of making a living, if being a doctor becomes nothing more than another government job tending to people who come in like cattle because they think their care is free and should visit the doctor for every sniffle, bump, and hang nail. Surely, it is not difficult to realize that, although the medical insurance situation stinks, going into some socialized universal medicine type of program would do nothing but make matters worse, and take away quality while at it.
