More Gore-ish Behavior Surfaces During Earth Hour

It ain't easy...

Yeah, I thinkg a lot of us were bamboozeled by Gore's film. I'll admit, I took it hook, line and sinker and I'm probably more educated than your average Joe in some of the science. I have to admit, I was being indoctrinated in "environmentalism" early on in my schooling and throughout college (all the beauty of a public education) Thank God I learned how to educate myself and to think freely.

I believe that being somewhat of an environmentalist and being "green" is a good thing. We should care about our world. We should work to keep it clean (we have to breathe the air, drink the water, grow our food). And yes, conservation is beneficial in the long run as well. But scaring the beejesus out of people and using the logical thinking and the emotional passion behind good environmentalism and stewardship of our world to further political agenda, shift monies into lucrative contracts for projects which are little more than the stuff of snake-oil salesmen and charlatans, and to overly burden future generations in an elaborate political shell game is irresponsible and even criminal.

Now, I think many of us agree that our reliance on fossil fuels is a weakness - especially foreign fuels. Further, the fact is, the stuff WILL run out, eventually (perhaps within 50 years time at the present rate of consumption). We do need to work to develop alternative fuels that are renewable and at the same time economical. It's not going to be easy; the chang ein infrastructure alone will be enourmously expensive. For an example, look at the wind farms that Pickens is developing in Texas. GE is selling him the turbines - as a cost of something like $2 billion. BUT, those turbines and wind farms where they will sit are useless without the infrastructure connecting them to "the grid." Any idea who's going to pay for that? Guess who? Give it a try... yep, US!
