great post

Well written and insightful.

Ummmmmmmmmmm?

Stevo,

" . . . [government] should serve as a sort of nurse, caring for the American economic organism whenever it grows excessively sick." Methinks, rather, that the federal government should act as referee, proscribing anyone who usurps or infringes on another's liberty. Each of us has an unalienable right to stupidity. If enough Americans exercise that right, the economy will falter, but our system motivates both by people winning and people losing.

"Our goal is to make our sick economy better." Methinks, rather, if you're right, we're wrong. Our goal should be to enforce the rule of law, including and especially, the supreme law of the land, the U.S. Constitution. Those who raise right hand and swear to uphold and defend it, must have had their fingers crossed.

Our goal should be to call them to account and undo their wrong. If we did merely that, and suspended the capital gains tax, that "sick economy" would become healthy in a New York minute. Then we need to continue to uphold and defend.
