What's the saying?
If you're not a liberal when younger, you haven't a heart; but if you're not conservative when older, you haven't a brain.
A good book is How I Accidentally Joined the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy (and Found Inner Peace) by Harry Stein.

And I like Virginia Daddy's quote.
I am also an ex-lefty, and I still respect the grown-ups on the left. Hey, there is room in this world for a variety of perspectives, that's the strength of democracy.
My problem has always been with the liberal loonies, and their relentless preaching of their neurotic agenda. It duz my 'ed in.

To prove I am fair
Here is a cause that the UK unions are taking up:
http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/tag/fair%20tips
There are companies in the UK that appear to be using tips to make up staff wages up to the minimum wage. If it is true ... it is scandalous.
I understand that the US system is that you get paid a low wage as a waiter/waitress, but then get to keep your tips.
The difference is profound.
In the UK, what is the economic incentive to be nice to the customer, if the company is going to keep all your tips?
I have written to the Daily Mirror with a comment along these lines (i.e. to provide a right-wing analysis of why this practice is wrong).
I do hope they publish it.

Check this out. It appears that Raul has taken stepped from Communism to Liberalism with his first steps toward DIVERSITY. The Cuban Government has approved paying for sex change operations. This is different. From strong disapproval to tolerance in 60 seconds. Will religious freedom be far behind. Correct me if I am wrong cell phones and now this.

I have No Doubt You are Fair.
I was a Hospitality Major due to circumstances beyond my control I did not finish. However, I did a proposal for a bar and restaurant in my Food and Beverage Class (I got an A). I do believe that some dining and beverage establishments pay minimum wage to waitstaff as a base. Somepay less than min. Tips may be pooled together which always stinks. I try to tip 20% when service is outstanding and give it directly to the waitperson. Some bartenders and waitstaff that I have known had made good money especially on weekends. Depending on the generosity of your clientele you can clean-up. I do not advocate using tips to add up to minimum wage in services and goods not normally associated with the hospitality industry or other industries that normally rely on tips. That is servitude could you imagine telling your Executive Assistant, Gee you will only be recieving less than min wage and we'll see how much tips you will get to make up the difference. Doubtful she would stay long.

BTW, we have similar religious views but are going in opposite political directions

Caday, Jesus Also Taught...
That we should use wisdom and discernment when confronted with thoughts and ideas which on the surface may seem logical to us but upon deeper investigation they will lead us astray. When people assault us for whatever reason we are to turn the other cheek but not be doormats. Blessed are you who are presecuted for My(Jesus)Names Sake. Our political views may be founded in our belief system but they should not dictate our belief system. In our minds there should be a clear separation of church and state.

I Never Was a Liberal
I truly believe Christianity is based on everyone's individual actions. God does not place a "gun" to your head and demand you obey him. As an individual, you are free to do what you think you should.
"Greg England's" comment is interesting, in the economic sense. In the USA, Conservatives believe in the actions of the individual as the most profound statement of their political beliefs. In the USA, it seems to me that Liberals believe the actions of the group (like the government) define who they are.

Gray Ghost-- Individual Actions
Christianity is based on a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is the knowledge that Jesus is both Saviour and Lord; that He has redeemed us from enslavement to sin in this world, by the shedding of his blood and His resurrection from the dead. He has given us eternal life in the next. Jesus is the last Adam; the most perfect sacrifice; Son of the Father yet one being with the Father begotten not made. The more I am reminded by others, by the bible, by the teachings of Jesus even now by the miracle of God - His word so readily accesible in my mind even at this moment, the stronger I believe. This belief in Jesus has colored my political views as to what God commands me in His Old and New Covenants and therefore I am held accountable for my own actions and will face judgement for what I have done and not done in His Holy Name. May I prove to be truly forgiven. Blessed are they who are forgiven much for they Love much. Ps I have difficulty remembering bible verse Numbers it is no excuse so forgive me.

GG I went Off on One of My Tangents.
I believe you are correct, to elaborate further, some folks believe the group defines not only what they believe but also thier reason for existance. It sounds much like Marxism to me, where everything is done for the common good and all are equal and therefore everything should be distributed equally. Jesus had a different view of this. He said "behold, to those whom much has been given even more shall be given and to those whom much has be taken even more shall be taken".
It sounds a little harsh but there is a reason He said it. I have an idea but I need to formulate my thoughts more. Thanks

I was once an "independent moderate" or so I thought in my own mind.....but I became a 9/11 conservative, maybe that's late for some, but I am what I am, and better late than never.....
