Bread and Circuses - PLUS UPDATE!

I'LL TAKE THE WORST OF THE EMPERORS

If our leaders in Washington were anything like the Roman emperors what's ahead for us wouldn't be half as bad.

Unlike the ancient emperors, Obama, Pelosi and Reid, the Three Blind Mice, are utopian fools with the final solution to all our problems; and by the time they are through saving this country from itself the treasury will be empty and there'll be no money for circuses and bread. What they'll be instead is a rising tide of crime and violence, disease, starvation, suicide and death. I don't know about you, my friend, but I'll take the worst of the Roman emperors over these fools any day.

History repeats itself

and somewhere George Orwell is shaking his head and saying "I told you so". Ayn Rand is keeping him company and nodding in agreement.

It seems our brain trusts in DC don't know, (or discount), history and are incapable of "doing the math" as evidenced by the numbers they bandy about that never add up. Can't add up.

Meanwhile, the proles graze like sheep while they are shorn down to their pink skin leaving them without protection or anything to keep them warm; unaware, in their bliss, that they are about to be taken to the slaughter house.

So, naturally, great leaders will spend time meddling in things that are none of their business........wait a minute.......What's that old cliche?
Oh yeah; something about fiddling while Rome was burning. Could that be what's going on here? Hummmmmmmm......

As Usual,great post, Keith.

Juvenal Is Too Early

Obama is more like the Emperor Honorius at the beginning of the fifth century who murdered the only decent minister in his government (Stilicho) and refused to mobilize the lazy and over-socialized population against the Visigoths. Or for something more current we can look at the current crop of world leaders and think back to August 1914, the last time the world went over a cliff...

a great post

keep the mob entertained, as he did on his inauguration day, appease them while the drooling media continues to worship him, and maybe a possible golden statue will be made of him. Like the Roman Emperors, power corrupts, and they'll do anything to keep that mob happy and stay in power, even contradicting our countries ideals, IE; our constitution.

Washington DC (Deserted Constitution) is full of power hungry sycophants.

Really enjoyed your post, Keith

Accurate, humorous, and disturbing, all at the same time - a hard trilogy to achieve. Kudos.

Keith, fine historical blog

What is so odd is that no Pub, conserv with clout, can make any inroads into the dumbed down uninformed Middle American conscience with facts to show just how this CIC is leading us into a Third World status with all of our power under UN supremacy. See just today the UN's goals for global domination. It is like the End Days scenario of an anti-Christ world dominated legislature. Yipe. With this naif in the WH on TV on a daily level, the public must think of him as all seeing, all powerful, fun and full of faith in all of them because he cares!!!! Yeah, that will work as long as conservs cannot find unity in a way to convince the sheeple that our Constitution, our very souls, our history, economy, culture are under a huge impassioned attack by using smiles, give aways and smug legislation to do what we cannot supposedly do for ourselves. Drop by my new one on the military. Thanks.

Friends, Countrymen...

You all make me proud - and thanks for being patient!

Skep, your example of Honorius is a good one, especially in view of the fact that since by his time too many Romans were living too luxuriously to serve in the legions, so a high percentage of their military were foreigners. An early victim of outsourcing, perhaps?

Bobbie takes the prize, of course, for hitting the bullseye on the metaphor I was going for: they're playing "Rock and Roll (Part 2)" on the fiddle while Rome burns. It's the ultimate halftime show! (For those of you now unable to get Gary Glitter out of your heads, I'm truly sorry.)

Rackoons, what you've touched on here is probably the biggest challenge we face: "...as long as conservs cannot find unity in a way to convince the sheeple ..." Because over the last two generations we have allowed the education systems to fail and become institutions of the left, we should not be surprised that those we trust with a vote have not been taught core American principles of the Republic, and have no conception how they were intended to work. How at this late stage to we teach them and make up for those lost years?

Very Perceptive!

Bread and Circuses and Electricity Grids! Tonight, many are turning off their power voluntarily to "save the planet"! Not in this house. Some whacko wrote that the UK should dispense with 50 percent of its population to "save the planet". Start with death row, child molesters, rapists, murderers and why is Charles Manson still breathing?
