This may sound a little redneckish, but I am a fan if Ice Road Truckers on the History channel. This past season the series was located in the Arctic Ocean. The purpose of them being there was these frozen hydrates containing natural gas. They were drilling to try and extract the gas. Well they did. They drilled and capped a well last winter that produced natural gas from these frozen hydrates. So it can be done. Just as long as our government will let us. This exploration happened in Canada. The great thing is they did it without hurting the environment. Even dirty snow from the site was trucked away. Not one sign of man ever being there remains. So it is possible and has been done. Now its up to the Dear Leader and his administration to allow it.

As far as gas in the Gulf of Mexico and other bodies of water. Natural gas bubbles up from the ocean floor naturally in the Gulf and Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. These hydrates, though not frozen exist there as well. We just need to get at them. But I fear the drop in oil and gas will silence the alternative energy movement for a while. So much for Obama's green job creation. Won't be a priority, just like in the 70's, until oil goes up again.

James, don't you understand that we will ignore all of our possible sources of domestic energy production while bleating about needing to end our dependence on arab oil? I did not see the episode on the well in Canada. But the thing is this is in Alaska. I hope the Canadians have all they need; but I want this for us in the USA.

In 1975, there were over 200 nuclear unit slated to be on line by 1985. Only 5 were built. Why?

The d*mn Democrats made sure that the Anti-Nuclear Idiots were allowed to stop construction on them.

We are in deep dodo because of the Democrats. (Even France gets 75% of their electric power from nuclear energy.)

We've used it in subs for years. Once again, the lovers and believers of science (the dem/libs) don't "get" science - nuke power is safe! And for people who love Europe so much, they sure don't want to imitate them on this issue.

was on tv last night saying the wind farm deals are failing, but that natural gas is the answer. And it's the only alternative fuel that can generate enough power to push an eighteen wheeler. That plus Pelosi's huge investments in Picken's plan makes me think the gas solution might happen. What say you?

First, thanks for stopping by. The US has some of the greatest natural gas reserves in the world. Why the Democrats are stopping their development, I don't know.

Sure, wind power "profits" are falling. Regardless of what the "Greenies" say, wind power will always be only a small player in the total picture. There just isn't that many places you can set up wind generators.

For some reason, I don't think the Democrats will go for the "natural gas" solution. I can't put my finger on it yet. But there is a reason.

A radio station in Elk City...or Clinton or Weatherford had a Tool Pusher on. When asked about time to drill he said that Six Weeks after getting marching orders he could be pumping oil in ANWAR... I don't doubt it. They are "rigging up" derricks...Oklahoma Skyscrapers... drilling and taking them down so quickly now I pass one on the way to the golf course one day and three days later it is gone...

The frozen hydrate deposits and methane clathrate have been known for years. In fact, the were a featured calamity in a piece of fiction I read some years ago named Transcendent by Stephen Baxter.

Most recently, The Gorian's have made noise about them as a danger of AGW. More wonderful work by noted climate moron James Hansen. They postulate that as the planet warms and the perma-frost layer is thawed it will turn to mush and begin releasing cataclysmic methane eruptions.

The Japanese seem to be out in front with planned production by 2016 with China following close behind. I believe the Russians have a working field in Siberia.

Perhaps an argument can be made on the basis of getting these dangerous deposits out before they cause the end of world.

I am a redneck and proud of it. As far as the well in Canada, the whole series takes place in Canada. The well I spoke of was of the coast of Canada on the Arctic Ocean near the mouth of the McKenzie River. The well is only accessible right know by ice. But I expect they will start piping it soon. Maybe this winter. To much money to be made from it. Unfortunately our brain dead great leaders won't do anything like that. They like our dependence on the Arab's too much. They are more worried about taxing plumbers, hugging trees, making sure Adam and Steve can get married or is it Barney Frank? More worried about spreading the wealth rather than helping those lower on the totem pole to create their own wealth.

Yes, Reid and Pelosi have vowed to over turn the drilling. It is part of Pelosi's agenda. Pelosi is also going to bring back every bill that President Bush vetoed and bring it back to the floor. Stop the madness now.

My first husband was a petroleum engineer and we were married during the Carter era. I fear that we are entering another Carter era with BO and it stinks! It just irritates me how much is hidden because of the "powers that be!"

This is good information, thank you for sharing. I wrote to Carter when he was Pres and really chewed him out about shutting down domestic production and selling us out on nuclear. Of course, he never answered me. It probably went in file 13!

if every one of the oil companies would would display righteous indignation and ignore the "law" and drill anyway. That would be an overwhelming situation for the government to handle. I for one am so sick of the government's arrogance, ingorance and thumbing their nose at us, that I would support, big time, any entity that stood up to them. The big shot politicians have forgotten who they work for. They're never going to remember until we knock them off their high horses. Arghhhhhhhhhhh!
