The Next Civil War?

You're right on
I am a former military historian and I've been saying that at 36 years old, I will see a civil war in my lifetime. It's not going to be Blue versus Gray or stuff like that but a vicious type of war like what was fought in the Balkans. The reality is that the country has devolved over the last four decades into two countries--two groups of people that share almost nothing in common in terms of their social, cultural, economic, or military values except having been born in the same piece of geography. I hope my prediction is not born out but I don't see how the left and right reconcile. They said 9/11 changed all that but that "unity" lasted what? A few months?

What shocking hypocrisy
What planet have you been living on? Have you ever watched Fox News, did you listen to the mocking tone of Republican convention, have you never heard Ann Coulter or Bill O'Reilly? Do you seriously believe that conversatives talk from logic and reason? How many liberals are creationists? How many conservatives go through logical contortions to convince themselves that the vast majority of climate scientists are liberally biased or on environmentalists' payroll? Yes, of course, I'm angry. How can I not be when I see such nonsense?

The loony left used to be something to laugh at but frankly, now it's getting scary. If you watch some of the recent protests at the RNC on youtube, you won't believe what you're seeing.

We are all living on a planet created by God...I guess you are living on one where life was created from a lightning bolt striking a mud puddle...which sounds more outrageous?
Fox news has more liberals on it in a day giving their view points (thus the description "fair and balanced")than the MSM plus CNN,MSNBC combined in a month's time. Ever here of Keith Oberman? Real charming and fair minded fellow...
I am sure you have been over to the Daily Kos...show me a rightwing website as disgusting and dispicable as that one.
Most of us can agree to disagree and wait until you lefties get to an age where you come to your senses...Until then go smash some windows and throw urine bombs at your local conservatives..

Hey Greg
The reason you hate Fox News is because they actually report the news, which you can't handle. You need your news to have a good social message to back up your politics. Why not just watch a Jerry Bruckheimer produced TV show.
Why do Liberals say "the debate is over" when it comes to a scientific theory like global warming. Frankly that should scare the hell out of you. I think people said the same thing about the earth being flat.

A reply
I don't know if anyone else ever come back to these comments, but, but for what it's worth:
1. No, the reason I hate Fox News is that it's propaganda, not news, and it doesn't have the intellectual honesty to admit it. It's a daily lie.
2. Dose of Reality, your characterizations of both the creationist and non-creationist models of the start of life are both grotesque misrepresentations. It's hardly what I would call the start of an intelligent and reasoned conversaton.
3. Loon Buster, the debate in science is never over. New evidence can always overturn existing theories. Bring on the new evidence for non-existence of global warming. As it stands, the evidence for global warming seems to be as solid as the evidence that Oswald killed Kennedy and Al Qaeda was behing the September 11 attacks. And there are plenty of people on the opposite side of those issues as well who say "The debate isn't over". Yes, it is. Please accept it so we can start figuring out what to do about it.

Something to think about
I have to agree with Greg on this one.
All the scientific evidence has shown that the earth is indeed heating up at an accelerated rate. If we stick our heads in the sand and refuse to see what's in front of us we will be leaving generations to come an environmental nightmare, if we haven't done so already.
Even if you choose NOT to believe in global warming, and I don't know how any reasonable person could with all the evidence out there, what harm can it do to clean up our environment?
The Bush administration has turned a blind eye when it comes to the environment, to say the least.
As for being an angry liberal, you can count me in. When I see how good things were under Bill Clinton's administration and how quickly things went downhill under George Bushes administration it makes me ill. I work at a call center and my job is constantly in risk of being outsourced to another country. My best friend works for GM and recently spent 5 weeks in the Phillipines where GM has outsourced many of their jobs also.
I am a single mom and in the past 8 years the government decided not to let my sons ride the bus unless because we live within 1 1/2 miles of the school. As a single mom I had no way of getting them to school, leaving them to walk in freezing temperatures because of budget cuts.
Meanwhile, we spend billions of dollars in another country, trying to make them like us after we bombed thousands of innocent women and children. Do you really think that the Iraqis will ever forgive us for what we've done in their country? What right do we have to impose our way of life on the world?
As for the "looney-left" getting violent, each party has it's extremists who do not make up the majority. The left is frustrated, but certainly we are intelligent enough to realize violence isn't an answer. Personally I wish we didn't have 2 parties in our country.

Oh yeah, one more thing Loon Buster: I thought conservatives were the ones who liked Jerry Bruckheimer movies. Everyone I know thinks they're idiotic at best. Who the hell is watching those damn things?

Sigh...
OK, folks, time for a reality check. Global warming and cooling periods have existed for most of the Earth's lifespan. We are currently in a long term (50 million year) COOLING period - see: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/ice/chill.html (and oh-my-gosh, Virginia, that's a PBS site!)
Within this period the polar ice caps have melted completely and come back, dozens of times, all without SUV's.
And the most inconvenient fact of all: in the past year alone, we gave back all of the so-called "warming" (about 1/2 a degree Celsius) in just the last year.
And remember, no one is required to DIS-prove man-made global warming (which would be a logical fallacy - attempting to assert a negative)- it is the proponents task to prove it.
But the real question is why are liberals so hell-bent-for-leather to swallow it hook, line, and sinker.

Or you can try this one...
Probably because it's not a myth. It's the rate at which they're melting that is so alarming.
Here are some alternate sites you might want to look into: http://www.epa.gov/climatechange, http://www.worldviewofglobalwarming.org, http://www.ucsusa.org/global_warming, http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/globalwarming.html, http://www.edf.org
Do you really think all the scientists are wrong? Why are the conservatives so hell-bent on disputing the experts in the field? Oh yeah, they love big oil!
