Not All Republicans Are Created Equal

That is so wasteful!

I find it especially moronic that Republicans are supposed to be for less spending, but then they go and do stuff like this.

Exactly

Thanks for the comment!

This kind of hypocrisy is hurting the party, and more importantly, actual conservatives who are trying to reduce the amount of government waste, like Sen. Tom Coburn of OK.

Correct, but for a reason

you did not notice. The Republicans lost because of this type of nonsense, not because the Democrats would better represent the taxpayers but because the taxpayers who wish to be heard were not being heard by anybody. For that reason they voted for nobody. I will do likewise again. When I see the Republicans whom I have been supporting since 1976 acting like Democrats I ask, "Why should I keep on voting for them?" My vote makes no difference and I will find a new party, even if every vote I cast is a half vote for the D's.

There is hope...

To those longing for a candidate who actually votes in office the same way he runs for office, there is hope. His name is Rep. Ron Paul. Please go to his site, check out his policy positions and his record. You may have been introduced to him along with much of the vapid name calling that passes for discussions within TownHall these days. But I ask that you consider him yourself and compare his record against the other 'conservatives' asking for your support. If you are looking for consistency and integrity, there is really no comparison.

Except...

I don't vote for libertarians.

Not sure how to respond...

RP is running for the Republican nomination, not Libertarian. And, yes there is a difference. Most L's are pro-choice (RP is not), and are for essentially no borders (RP is a huge proponent of national sovereignty). Does he have something in common with Libertarians: of course he does. So do most Republicans:

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is."

-Ronald Reagan

It's your blog...I am in your house. But I am curious: how do you tie your response to the mention of Ron Paul?

Peace be with you.

I disagree

I think I am going to have to disagree with Reagan on this. I would say the fundamental tenet of conservatism is the preservation of ordered liberty, not freedom for freedom's sake.
