After gobbling up a good deal of what Joseph Ratzinger has written in the past 28 years as Cardinal and now as Pope, I see that you and he share a basis of understanding, you are both on the plank and at sword's point you are being pushed to the edge.

His quote concerning the totalitarian underside of the Culture of Death highlights the sad state of affairs in which right reason is jettisoned to make space and time for the twin gods of compromise and convenience, effectively undoing 2,500 years of what might be called Western Culture in a brief span of 50 years.

You also have learned the Chestertonian, the
New Oxford three-step shuffle and I applaud your writing talent that keeps my tongue in cheek waiting for a smile that inevidibly comes when you hit the mark with a crisp observation.

I hope that someday you might seek to explore the only hope that I see on the horizon...a reunified Catholic Church (sans scandels), one that bridges the gap between Faith and Science/Reason with the mediator, Jesus Christ and the Holy Eucharist. A look at the life and times of the Pre-Reformation Patron of Scientists, St. Albert the Great, may prove enlightening as a first step to help one visualize what might still be possible
