Saying Good-bye to America

Well said!

But you have to keep a positive attitude. Yeah, things are going to be bad for a while, but don't forget, the GOP was just as guilty of getting us into this mess.

Things will be bad, but then hopefully people will wise up and change things for the better.

If not, we're screwed, truly.

But we had to go through Carter to get Reagan. We had to go through LBJ to get Nixon (who I thought was a pretty good President, actually). We had to have Clinton to get the 1994 Contract With America sweep of Congress (back when the GOP actually stood for conservatism). So we'll have to go through a bit of pain right now, too.

Agree

with BrianR, the GOP screwed us bad.

Excellent read. You have captured a lot of my own thoughts, etc.

Like Brian, I am hopeful that people will "wise up." Given President Obama's speech, it is my further hope that awakening will happen sooner than later.

BrianR, GunnyG, AL

You're all right--I couldn't be more disappointed in many of the RINOs--and I do hope we won't be truly screwed. But my husband can tell you that I don't have a whole lotta optimism when I see what kind of morons are in a dither over Obama. Thanks, all of you, for the comments and reading my post.

Keep fighting Jan@Oasis

I hope to bring about the newer 'younger' conservative thinking know the wrongs of both sides of the political spectrum. The GOP were weak, the democrats toooooo liberal, and some politicians who don't care which side their on as long as there is money involved.

My fiancee and I are very skeptical of the new administration, and have actually looked into the mess that we have today. Most voters as old as myself (23) look to the media to find answers, if they even look at all. I hope we make our voices heard and will be if Obama really hurts America. I just pray he doesn't.

Jan

Well said. We can fight back if we adhere to those old fashioned things like: the Constitution, conservative values, traditional AMERICAN values, personal responsibility, faith, and family.

Eric and Crawfish

Many thanks for stopping by and for commenting. Eric, you are only slightly younger than my daughters and they are of like mind with you. I am happy to see young people who can THINK, reason and assess. I taught my kids all the things they needed to know about America. I do hope Obama doesn't hurt our country--but I don't see how he CAN'T.
Crawfish, I read you all the time. Love your stuff. Thanks.

Jan

This was a great essay, very powerful and moving and sad.

I too miss the days of my youth and the way things were back then.

As you said, the America all our grandparents grew up in is increasingly nothing but a pleasant memory.

I think it can return, but it will take very hard work and much effort.

The question is, can our generation follow the example of the older generations, and roll up our sleeves and work hard to make this a truly great nation again?

Curtal Friar

Thanks for the kind words. And I hope we can, have some grandkids who need us to keep the faith.

Well written

I agree with BrianR, that the GOP were more power hungry than fiscally responsible. That's what started us on this downward spiral enough that no republican stood a real chance against Obama. People in Europe are just now learning that countries that give everything away cannot function. France finally learned that this last election. I fear a great deal when it comes to America's future. When you add up a liberal executive branch, legislative branch, the MSM heavily in their tank, and Americans being too lazy to research things on their own. I think that spells disaster and I really don't see a way out of it. No matter who runs in 2012, Obama will get a pass and win. Can America survive eight years of that? We shall see.

Jan,

as to the "kind of morons" who are cheering Obambi: those are exactly the same kind of morons who cheered for Carter and Clinton. Nothing new.

That's why Nixon termed conservatives the "Silent Majority". Don't forget, this is still a right-of-center country at its core.

Had the GOP run an actual conservative -- instead of that a-hole McLiberal -- they'd have won in a landslide.

McAmnesty lost because conservatives like me (and others on this site like Gunny, VPat, etc) refused to vote for him.

BrianR

I know the left never learns anything, but do you wonder why the right doesn't seem to either anymore? Why did the Republicans try to recycle the Bob Dole disaster? When will they learn that conservatives can beat libs, but RINOs cannot? It's discouraging! And it does no good for the majority of the country to be right of center if it cannot elect representatives of that view. Sigh....
