'Village Voice' Leftist
Sadly, as much as I enjoyed some of Ross's early work, after that Village Voice cover depiction of Bush, I ran cold as to my opinion of him. It's one thing to be ideologically opposed to a policy, but, to depict the President of the USA in a similar vein as Al Qeada propaganda is disgusting, and borderline criminal. But, as you say, not surprising, ever read 'Uncle Sam' by Ross and Krueger? It's US 'history' by way of Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky in a pretty bow. I stopped reading after issue 3 on this series you reviewed. They also have a series called 'Superheroes' or 'S". Where America is depicted as corporate/fascist state, and some Middle-Eastern zealots are depicted as the 'heroes?' I just don't understand how people who rely on the freedoms they enjoy in the West, are so 'gung-ho' to attack what they perceive as attacks on the 'Constitution' being trampled, while excusing, even rationalionalising the real enemy fascists, we are in a fight in for our and their survival. It truly is blind, decadence.

Dynamite - Project Superpowers
I think that is what you're referring to above. I've been reading this mostly to see how todays writers envision Golden Age heroes.
And, yes, the fact that America, in Ross's Project Superpowers, is run by robotic white neo-fascists is not lost on me. What I find interesting about those books is the "American Spirit" that appears as an American Flag draped over a body that isn't there, and who follows around the Fighting Yank like some kind of Greek chorus.
There is a lot for conservatives to not like about this series. But I keep coming back to it. Call me a masochist.

Yes, Superheroes are now 'Anti-American'
I think we, 'conservative' comic book fans, keep coming back, cause many of us came of age during the Silver/Bronze age, when patriotism was still in vogue. We still see glimmers, but, the mainstream has been mostly taken over, as much of the media, by ever increasing hard core Leftists.
Yes, it was called 'Superpowers', but, no matter what it's called, 50's-70's Anti-Communism is virtually refered to as mental disorder at best, and a pre-cursor to Nazism, which is why it is constantly refered too in those Ross/Kreuger books.
Truth is at a time when Comic Book movies are breaking box office records, relying on old individualism and busting up criminals,'liberal' law be damned attitude, comic books continue to hover at the worst circulation levels ever.
It's a shame more heroic comics have not been produced, due to a small, vocal, rabid, lefty/geek base, which attacks any positive as 'jingoistic', or *gasp* 'Pro-Bush.' Look at how the small, vocal base attacked Iron Man VS. Capt. America in Civil War. No doubt the analogy was Iron Man 'Pro-War On Terror' amd Capt. America on the 'Anti-War' side. It was purposely mismatched and cynical manipulation by putting Cap on the 'Anti-War' side, making it virtually impossible for Tony Stark/Billionare Industrialist created security for the US Govt, to look as anything, but, some Fascist. I enjoyed the series, to a point, but, found many of the heavy handed, 'Tie-In' portrayals to be annoying.

Superheroes are now 'Anti-American' Pt-2
The worst especially by writer/hacks Jenkins and from Hollywood JMS, of Spiderman as being 'inspired' to go against Reed, Iron Man and any 'Pro-SHRA' forces as evil, from a story Reed told him about a 'free' spirit destroyed by McCarthy. This is not only an insult to the tens of millions who lost their lives and families due to such 'free' spirits in the West support of Stalin and Mao, but, just bad writing. I mean he made Peter seem like an incompetent who one day is unmasking to the world and the next fighting to the death against it?
There are glimmers of hope, Storming Paradise a great Dixon WW 2 by Wildstorm/DC. 'Finding Peace' a graphic novel about the current conflict, in contrast to the much applauded salivating Leftist 'gong show' graphic novels Shooting War and the one about the lions in Baghdad, who receive awards no one cares about or votes.
Let's face it, it's an uphill battle for any 'Non-Left' comic book to be published, and promoted. But, it does happen, and when comic sales reach rock bottom, maybe, the powers that be will start realising, shrinking your base to appeal to the same 50,000 or so 'fans' who buy two or three copies of a book, is not expanding your readership, but, keeping it a small, elitist, mob.
