Founding Fathers Deists My FOOT!!

MPCoffends

My belief on the founding being by, mostly, deists, is based not upon a disbelief in the religious nature of our nation, and not on a belief that deists were the majority, but because in the documents of our founding, Christ is barely, if ever, mentioned, while God, the Perfect Governor, the Ultimate Creator, etc, are used many times. Why this is? I don't know. And I didn't know the religious make-up of the founders. It is good to know that. I am a Christian and believe in the religious founding, and that it was more Christian than anything else.

Also, you stated that neither Jefferson nor Barlow believed in God. I can't say about Barlow, but Jefferson was definitely a God fearing man. Raised Episcopal, he was scolded by many for having Sunday services in the House of Representitives and Supreme Court chambers. He also wrote to Ben Rush, "I am a Christian in the only sense in which Jesus wished anyone to be".

I agree about the Treaty of Tripoli. It appears Barlow left out the 11th article to appease the Muslims.
