WHITNEY HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL IS LYING AND TRYING TO SCARE PARENTS WHO OPPOSE A NEW HIGH SCHOOL CHARTER SCHOOL

I got a similar email from Rocklin High School today. I replied asking for more information instead of just an email.
I googled to see if I could get more facts on my own and I stumbled on your blog.

It would be nice to have a link so I can read about the impacts of the charter school and who it will be available to. I have both sides of the academic stick. One child that is straight A's and one that is struggling.
What are the benefits? What are the drawbacks? Is there a place where I can read the FACTS about the charter school?

There are no drawbacks. The benefit is parents will have another choice on which school/s best meets the needs of their children. The Rocklin School Board continues to play politics with our children.

I doubt there won't be ANY drawbacks if we are being honest, which from reading your blogs, you seem to be. There are always drawbacks.
I'm not the biggest fan of Rocklin School for many reasons, but I would rather be more informed on BOTH sides before I come to a conclusion on the matter. I will have children in Rocklin schools for what seems forever and want to be informed on both sides.

In the end, it comes down to choice. Rocklin schools do a good job, but they do not meet the needs of all students. You should be making the decision on where to send you children and not the political hacks on the Rocklin School Board.

EMAIL FROM RHS:If they vote approval, this means that Rocklin or Whitney High School plus Spring View or Granite Oaks will be forced to house a separate school on 2 of our campuses.

QUESTION: what does it mean by 'forced to house a separate school'? Will the Charter school be 'added' on to RHS or WHS? who pays for this?

QUESTION: What is 'no buy in and no connection to either school'? and what is the devastation to the academic programs that is going to occur?

QUESTION: Will the charter be using any of the facilities of RHS or WHS?

RHS EMAIL: school culture,

QUESTION: School culture? I'm confused, can you explain this?

RHS EMAIL: athletics and more.

QUESTION: How does the charter school have to do with the athletic department?

RHS EMAIL: With the current financial woes of the state, we are already concerned about the loss of revenue to our high schools and middle schools

QUESTION: will the charter school cause a loss of revenue to our HS and middle schools?

RHS EMAIL:and the impact that will be felt on class size ratios, teachers’ jobs and cuts to other programs.

QUESTION: will there be an impact on the class size ratios and teachers jobs?

RHS EMAIL: Having the charter on our Rocklin School campuses (RHS / WHS/ GOMS/ SVMS) will result in a financial drain to our schools.

QUESTION: exactly what kind of drain?

RHS EMAIL: YOUR STUDENT will lose teachers,

QUESTION: How will the charter school cause the loss of teachers?

RHS EMAIL: YOUR STUDENT will lose programs,

QUESTION: what programs will be up on the block and how does having the charter school cause that?

RHS EMAIL:and YOUR STUDENT will be hurt in ways too numerous to list in this email.

QUESTION: This just sounds stupid, but I thought I would leave it in there because it sounds a lot like the scare tactics used by certain Prop supporters.

Can you help me answer these questions? I will ask the same question to the email principle and see how he replies.

I stumbled across Mr. Klang's post while I was composing my own "response". I decided to copy Eric Hogue. He responded that he might look to cover this during his capital hour and is seeking representatives to talk to. SO STAY TUNED.

I recommended Dr. David Patterson of Rocklin Academy on the pro and Mr. Garrison on the con.

I have seven kids, two at Rocklin High, and two at Rocklin Academy and one at Maria Montesorri. Our kids have attended Twin Oaks and Granite Oaks as well.

Here is the bottom line, Rocklin's traditional schools are not bad, but they are not exceptional either. For many kids they are perfectly fine, but the are not a one-size fits all solution.

My 3 daughters did great at RHS, but they were not able to challenge them to their full potential--so I ask myself what if. My adopted son in his first year at Maria Montesorri, is for the first time thriving in school. Twin Oaks just did not have the resources or directive to personalize his education.

Our community is too large and our children too special to limit our options. If resources are the issue then lets work on that...not limiting our children.

I would like to hear that debate. Dr. David Patterson is a god choice for the pro charter school. Mike Garison is not a good. I believe he was forced into sending that email.

Why not have the President of the Rocklin School Board, Steve Paul, take the anti-charter side? Tell Eric to call Steve Paul.

you would like to be able to answer the questions in this forum. I was hoping to be able to send the other parents that received the same 'uninformed' email here to read the answers.

I have always felt that we weren't very informed by the school district unless it's something THEY want US to know.

I know for sure no one informed the parents when my daughter had her life threatened by another student and I spent 3 hours in the principles office and INSISTED he tell me what actions he was going to take, but he wouldn't because the kid was a minor. This student went on to continue to do this all through middle school and now in high school. The principle said, "Well, after the year is over, you won't have to worry, because he will be going to Whitney."

BTW - The school district is now spending money on robo calls to get parents to oppose the charter.

Someone else recommended Steve Paul as well so I will let Eric know. Dr. Patterson is expecting Eric's contact. Eric didn't say when he would cover this, but he did say he wanted to focus on this for an upcoming show. I would definitely be paying attention to his show the next three days.

I also agree Mr. Garrison was probably forced to send this, and doubt he or Ms Hawkins even wrote these personally. I am far from being a great writer, but the spelling errors and grammar in these letters is in an ironic sense evidence of the need for alternative education choices in our community.

Have Eric push for Steve Paul. He is the President of the School Board and speaks for the district. Tell Eric not to settle for anyone else.

Eric says he is looking to feature this issue Wednesday at 12 Noon 11/12/2008 on his radio show at 12 noon. Please encourage EVERYONE you know to listen in for a hopefully informative session on this topic.

I have connected Eric and Dr. Patterson (pro WSCA), and have strongly encouraged Eric to contact Steve Paul (against).

I got a reply from the principle answer the same questions I asked here.
I would like to see the contrast between the answers.
