Thanks for the reminder of prayer's powr

I really enjoyed the last couple of posts... I need more pondering time to process the information.

I think this world -- Christians included -- has a long ways to go before reaching the level of sincere prayer to achieve those things that cannot be realized through physical acts, which is just about everything. (Sadly, it's too often that I count myself in this category.)

We see constant examples of how individuals and entire countries are reluctant to acknowledge evil in the world, just to avoid involvement in confronting it. Acknowledging evil goes hand-in-hand with confronting it, and people of faith should react in both prayer and action.

I see examples every day of how individuals can't bring themselves to take action on the minutest indication of evil, let alone the outright intrusion of darkness. Bureaucracy is written up in the Devil's Mission Statement, no doubt.

Outside my office, I posted an Edmond Burke quote, mostly out of frustration out of local management's fear of taking a stand against something that was obviously wrong and hurting people; not wanting to stir the pot. One of my bosses thought he could solve the problem by having me take down the quote based on promoting Christian ethics in government workplace (this is called: solving the wrong problem). The quote remains posted, based on the fact that Burke was simply an Irish statesman with a broader view of good and evil. Of course, for me, the implications of the quote in God's world are profound.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

Thanks Russ

Many thanks for your thoughtful comments. I agree with you that Christians need to realize and act upon the power of prayer when it comes to changing things, and particularly in changing people. I was sharing with fellow blogger here this morning that the so-called "culture war," or the heated political battles that rage in this country, are less battles between parties or ideologies, but are at their base spiritual battles. I would hope (and pray) that Christians who are concerned about the direction of this nation, and about its influence in the world, will use the resources they have in Christ to change things -- the power of prayer, the power of His Spirit -- and not simply rely upon the resources and methods of the world only.
