One of the great philosphical classics, ranks number 3 in my top ten list, a great inspiration to me when a young man. Everyone should read it for the reasons you give especially those advanced in years-along with Plato's Phaedo, the book Cato read before he took his life sacrificing it on the alter of freedom.
