I think it was right after Watergate but had it's start around '68. My gereration is to blame I am affraid. people like me who were Dems gave up on the party and joined the Reagan revolution and never left back, leaving the aparty to the lunatic fringe, Teacher's Unions, Appeasers, and Scocialists...to bad
