our terrible choice for President-2008
Wow, what could have happened to John McCain and the Republican Party. They had a brilliant plan, nominating a national hero. The Democrats had a terrible plan, nominating a civil rights leader, catering to one specific group, minorities. But somehow Republicans snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. The Republicans need to take inventory, determine what went wrong and insure that it doesn't happen again. Fat chance. Anyone remember how a war hero Republican President, Bush 41 would manage to lose to a corrupt philanderer, i.e., Bill Clinton. Republicans need to stop demonizing conservatives. It is the party of conservatives. I just hope that the party finds another Ronald Reagan.

I agree that Conservatives need to be just that--Conservative! No one likes lukewarm water--they don't like lukewarm politics either. Know what you believe in, and actively go out and debate the issues...
The weakness of McCain's campaign was the lack of a strong, central messege to hold it together. They were all over the place--throwing off Conservatives, Independents, and even moderate Democrats who might have been interested in the ticket. It was like watching a football team fumble all over the field...people needed to hear--and wanted to hear--creative solutions for current problems. I think they should have hit hard on gay marriage, illegal immigration, drilling, and come up with a better healthcare solution--and explained it! The solutions they did present were confusing and didn't really resonate. Also, Conservatives need to figure out a plan to shrink Washington and get more power back to the states like the Constitution originally intended. I think people would be excited if someone actually said they would do that--and HOW they would do that.
